The Ambassador
Ambassador Tarcísio Costa graduated from the Rio Branco Institute – the Brazilian Diplomatic Academy – in 1986 and obtained his D.Phil degree in political theory from the University of Cambridge (King´s College), in the United Kingdom, in 1998. He is currently Ambassador of Brazil to the Republic of Lebanon.
Ambassador Costa held several positions at the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director of the Department of Northern and Western South America (2016-2018) and Spokesman to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2018). He also served as Deputy Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic (2000-2002), Special Advisor to former President Fernando Henrique Cardoso (2003-2005) and International Advisor to the President of the Brazilian Electoral Court (2013-2016).
His posts abroad included the Embassy of Brazil to the United Kingdom (Second Secretary, 1990-1994), the Consulate General of Brazil in San Francisco, United States (Deputy Consul, 1994-1997), Embassy of Brazil in Spain (Head of the Trade Section, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, 2005-2009) and Embassy of Brazil in Italy (Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission, 2009-2013) and the Consulate General of Brazil in London (Consul General, 2019-2022).
Ambassador Costa lectured at the Rio Branco Institute and at the University of Brasilia. He was visiting scholar at Stanford University (1995-1997) and undertook post-doctorate studies at the Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of São Paulo (2003-2004).
He is married and has two adolescent children.
