Electoral Services
Attention! Starting from May 8th, the voter registration will be closed in respect of the pre-election restrictions (“defeso eleitoral”).
May 8th is the last day for voters residing abroad to request enlistment, transfer, and revision operations for their voter registration.
All electoral services must be sought through online self-service at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) website www.tse.jus.br, under the Electoral Services menu.
During the pre-election restrictions, the TSE will provide, through the same website, certificates attesting to the electoral situation of the applicant - including for those who do not have an electoral registration. Therefore, presenting the clearance (“quitação”) remains necessary for the issuance of all documents for which it is required.
For faster acquisition of the clearance (“quitação”) certificate, electoral fines can be paid via the "PIX" instant payment system.
In cases of canceled registration, it will be possible to request, through the self-service of the Electoral Court (https://www.tse.jus.br/servicos-eleitorais/certidoes/certidoes), a detailed certificate (“certidão circunstanciada”) valid until November 4, 2024, as a replacement for the electoral clearance ( “quitação”) certificate.
From that date, you will be able to regularize your situation and obtain a new voter registration. Only in very exceptional cases, which will be informed on the TSE website itself, should the electoral registry office (“cartório eleitoral”) be directly contacted.
Passports issued based on the detailed certificate (“certidão circunstanciada”) will have their validity limited to six months after the reopening of the electoral registration, i.e., May 4, 2025.
Between November 4, 2024, and May 4, 2025, the interested party must regularize their electoral situation to request a new travel document with normal validity.
The pre-election restrictions (“defeso eleitoral”) period will be concluded after the end of the 2024 municipal elections.
Being up to date with your electoral obligations is essential to request services such as passport issuance.
