General information
All individuals — Brazilians and foreigners — of any age who own or wish to own property, vehicles, boats, aircraft, financial investments, or bank accounts in Brazil must register for a CPF.
The CPF number is issued once and is unique and permanent. No second registration is allowed. The number will be generated upon issuance and included in the receipt given to the applicant. The CPF number must be kept safe or memorized, as physical CPF cards will no longer be issued.
Those who forget their CPF number must request it in Brazil at a Receita Federal office, as the Embassy in Bangkok cannot assist due to privacy laws. A representative in Brazil may request it on the applicant's behalf with a power of attorney. For further inquiries, email: cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br.
According to Joint Ordinance COCAD/COGEA No. 53/2023, as amended by Joint Ordinance COCAD/COGEA No. 55/2023, foreigners abroad must submit CPF requests at Brazilian consular offices, except for the following cases, which may be submitted by email at cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br:
I – Applications from foreigners with diplomatic privileges and immunities;
II – Applications involving CPF modifications, regularizations, cancellations, restorations, or inquiries.
The conclusion of the service, along with any relevant documents, will be sent by email to the address provided on the FCPF (Individual Taxpayer Registration Form).
Regularization, data Changes, and CPF cancellation
CPF regularization or data updates must be requested directly to the Receita Federal via email: cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br
The Embassy of Brazil only processes new CPF requests or updates for CPF registrations processed at the Embassy within the last 90 days. For these cases, schedule an appointment through the e-consular system.
To check your CPF status or request regularization or data changes, visit the Receita Federal website. Requests for CPF regularization for foreigners and Brazilians living abroad must be made in person at a Receita Federal office in Brazil. The same applies to CPF cancellations for deceased individuals.
