BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR MINORS UNDER 12 YEARS OLD
BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR MINORS BETWEEN 12 AND 18 YEARS OLD
BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR ADULTS (OVER 18 YEARS OLD)
GENERAL INFORMATION
When a Brazilian citizen has a child outside the Brazilian territory, this newborn does not automatically receive the Brazilian citizenship. If the parents wishes that their child obtain the Brazilian nationality, they must obtain, for the newborn, a Brazilian consular birth certificate. After this, they can request, for their child, a Brazilian passport and apply for other consular services exclusive for Brazilian citizens.
A consular birth registration is issued according to the information contained on the birth certificate issued by the authorities of the place where the child was born. Therefore, it is necessary that a local birth certificate is obtained BEFORE applying for a birth certificate from this Embassy. Moreover, it is not allowed that, in the consular birth certificate, parents request any type of modification, such as changes in the child’s name, which will be exactly the same as the one shown on the foreign birth certificate. Thus, if the parents are not satisfied with any information displayed on the foreign birth certificate, it is necessary that, before applying for the consular birth certificate, they request that the foreign authorities that issued the document authorize those changes.
You cannot apply for a consular birth certificate at the Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil in Abu Dhabi if you have already obtained this document from another Brazilian Embassy of Consulate, or from a public notary (cartório) in Brazil. If you have already registered your child before and need a new copy of the document, please contact the entity that issued the original certificate.
The birth certificate issued by the Embassy must be registered, in Brazil, at the first civil public notary (Cartório do Primeiro Ofício do Registro Civil) of your place of residence or, if you live abroad and do not have an address in Brazil, at the first civil public notary of the Federal District in Brasília.
A consular birth certificate can be obtained even when only one of the parents is s Brazilian citizen. Only the Brazilian parent can apply for the document, independent of the consent of the non-Brazilian parent. In order to apply for a passport, however, the consent of the non-Brazilian parent is mandatory (for more information about passports, click here).
It is not possible for the applicant to send a representative to collect the certificate on his behalf. Only the applicant can receive the document after signing the Embassy's record book.
