Deputy Permanent Representative
Ambassador Norberto Moretti holds a degree in History from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and diplomacy from the Brazilian diplomatic academy (Rio-Branco Institute). He joined the foreign service in 1990.
He served as assistant to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994), head of the Trade Remedies and Safeguards Division (2002), Political Coordinator in the UN Security Council (2010-11), head of the International Peace and Security Division (2011), advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2013) and director of the departments of Financial Affairs and Services (2015) and Northern and Eastern South America (2018) in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2019-2020, he served as Secretary for Foreign Trade and Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was also Brazil’s Sherpa for G-20 and BRICS. He was the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal from 2021 to 2023. He is currently the Deputy Permanent Representative of Brazil to the United Nations in New York.
His foreign postings include the embassies of Brazil in Washington (1995-1999), Buenos Aires (1999-2004), Ottawa (2004-2007), the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN (2007-2011) and the Permanent Delegation of Brazil to the ICAO (2021-2023). He was a member of the UN Secretary General Peacebuilding Fund Advisory Group (2012-2013).
Born in Rio de Janeiro, on September 28th, 1965, Ambassador Moretti is married and has two children.
