AUGUSTO PESTANA
Consul General of Brazil in Shanghai since March 2023

Born in São Paulo in 1971 and a career diplomat since 1995, he was CEO and Business Director of the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), Chief of Staff at the Media and Public Affairs Office of the President, Head of the Foreign Ministry units for Policy Planning, Nuclear Energy and Western European Affairs and Assistant Professor of Diplomatic Practice at the Rio Branco Institute (Brazil’s Diplomatic Academy). He served at the Brazilian Embassies in Germany (2003-06), Japan (2006-08, 2014-18), Mexico (1996) and New Zealand (2018-19).

Before joining the Brazilian Foreign Service, he was a journalist at the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper and a lawyer at the pro bono law firm XI de Agosto.

Graduated in Law from the University of São Paulo (1993), with a professional PhD from the Rio Branco Institute (2014), he has published works on energy, science and technology, public diplomacy and international relations.

Ambassador Pestana is married and has two daughters.
