ATTENTION:
Brazilian males residing overseas must register for military draft starting 6 (six) months before their eighteenth (18th) birthday at the Consulate that has jurisdiction over their place of residence.
To enlist, one must go personally at the Consulate General in Washington, DC.
This service is provided free of charge.
Military Draft Registration is a same-day service only by appointment.

DOCUMENTS

Official Brazilian Documents
Brazilian Birth Certificate or Brazilian Marriage Certificate;
AND
Brazilian ID card (RG) or Brazilian passport (even if expired)
IMPORTANT: Between the ages of 18 and 28, Brazilian males must request Postponement of the Draft from the Consulate annually and in person (please see below).
POSTPONEMENT OF THE DRAFT
All Brazilians residing overseas who are registered for the military draft are bound to request postponement of their draft from the nearest Brazilian Consulate annually and in person until they reach 45 years of age.
Upon reaching 28 years of age, Brazilians may request a Certificate of Exemption from the Draft (“Certificado de Dispensa de Incorporação”). Once this is granted, one is no longer required to annually request postponement of their draft.
One may request postponement of their draft by presenting the original Military Draft Certificate (“Certificado de Alistamento Militar”- CAM) in person at the Consulate.
The postponement is registered immediately and it is free of charge.
EXEMPTION FROM THE DRAFT
Documents:
Exemption from the Draft Form (click here to obtain form), to the directing Military Body to which the person is subordinated, in which he declares the intention of living abroad indefinitely.
Military Draft Certificate (“Certificado de Alistamento Militar”- CAM).
