CPF
Starting on January 2024, the CPF will become mandatory for Brazilian citizens to obtain consular services, including requesting certificates and renewing passports.
In addition, Brazilians or foreigners of any age who own or wish to own, in Brazil, assets and rights subject to public registration, such as real estate, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, corporate interests or bank accounts must have a CPF registration.
The CPF registration number is assigned only once (it is unique and definitive), with no possibility of second registration. Anyone who has forgotten their CPF number must request it in Brazil, from the Federal Revenue Service. Further clarifications can be obtained by email: cpf.residente.exterior@rfb.gov.br.
Instructions for Brazilian citizens who wish to request the CPF registration are available here.
CPF registration request for foreign citizens
Foreign citizens who are not in Brazil can only request the CPF registration at Brazilian consular offices abroad, via in person appointment.
