As of April 2021, the Consulate has adopted a new procedure for receiving visa applications. All requests must be done through the e-consular system and, after validation, they must be submitted by mail only. In person visa requests are interrupted until further notice.
HOW TO APPLY

- Access the e-consular system to create the service request
- Wait for validation before sending documents by mail
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ALL TYPES OF TEMPORARY VISA
Proof of residence in consular jurisdiction

- Photocopy of a valid driver's license or current utility bill
|
Original passport
|
- The passport must be valid for the entire period of stay, including the date of departure.
- It must have at least two blank pages
- Non-Canadians must also provide proof of legal status in Canada such as a valid visa, admission stamp on the passport, notarized copy of a valid study / work permit or permanent resident card.

Birth certificate
|
- The document must show the name of the applicant's parents.
- If not issued in Canada, the birth certificate must be apostilled or legalized.
- If not written in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French, it must be accompanied by a certified translation.
|
Visa form delivery receipt (RER)
|
- Fill out the Visa Request Form
- Although the system only requires the upload of a photo and signature, all required documents for your specific type of visa must be uploaded for validation by a consular agent
- Print the Visa Form Delivery Receipt (RER) and sign it in the designated box.
- For minor applicants, both parents must sign the RER in the designated box.

Recent passport photo
|
- A 2x2 photo of the front face, taken against a plain off-white or white background, within the last 6 months.
|
Police Clearance
|
- Issued by RCMP or local police within 3 months from date of application.
- Private third-party services are not accepted.
|
For minors
(if applicable)
|
- If the applicant is under 18 years old:
a) Notarized Minor Travel Authorization Form signed by both parents or legal guardians.
b) In case only one parent is signing the authorization, a copy of the document that proves their ability to do so. Examples: second parent's death certificate, judicial document granting sole custody and ability to issue travel documents, birth certificate showing only one parent.

- The fee for temporary visas is CAD$ 150 for most passport nationalities, with the exception of the following:

TEMPORARY VISA TYPES
1. RESEARCH, TEACHING OR ACADEMIC EXTENSION:
Proof of financial capability
|
- Document stating you have a grant, scholarship or other kind of allowance for this purpose
- If funding the activity on your own, bank statements from the last 3 months prior to date of application
|
Invitation letter from Brazilian institution
|
- The letter must contain detailed information about the nature of the activities to be performed (including predicted start and end date) and of the link between receiving institution and foreign guest (existence of an international agreement between institutions, or of any financial exchange or contract between the parts, etc), as well as indicate a contact person in Brazil to answer any additional questions regarding the invitation
- If issued by a private institution, the signee's signature must be notarized in Brazil (firma reconhecida em cartório) for the letter to be accepted

2. STUDY OR INTERNSHIP WITH STAY OF MORE THAN 90 DAYS:
Proof of enrolment and eligibility
|
- For language and other technical courses: a) Proof of enrolment indicating duration and nature of studies, as well as the estimated number of class hours/week; b) Proof that institution is regularly registered for a "CNPJ"
- For undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate courses: a) high school, college or university diploma; b) proof of acceptance by and enrolment in an institution regularly registered at the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC); c) proof of having participated and been approved in the institution's public selection process
- For exchange programs: a) proof of enrolment in a foreign teaching institution; b) proof of enrolment in a corresponding Brazilian teaching institution regularly registered at the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC)
- For graduate studies or specialization in the medical field: a) proof that the applicant has finished medical school; b) proof of enrolment or letter of acceptance; c) document signed by those responsible for the course in Brazil stating that (i) the applicant will not practice medicine or medical actions in Brazil, except those required for the applicant's training, which must be practiced only in the institution to which the visitor is attached, (ii) that the preceptor is responsible for the visitor before the Regional Medical Council as per Art. 7, caput c/c §5º of Resolution no. 1832/2008 of the Federal Medical Council, (iii) that the preceptor is responsible for officially notifying the Regional Medical Council of the visitor's presence as per Art. 7 of said Resolution.

Proof of funds
|
- Proof of financial capability to support yourself through the duration of your studies or proof of having been awarded a scholarship compatible with the intended stay expenses.
|
If applicant is a minor
|
- Notarized travel authorization from parents or legal guardians indicating who will be responsible for their child throughout their stay in Brazil.
|
3. WORK: Temporary work visas may be granted to immigrants who intend to work in Brazil.
Before submitting an application to the Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto, the Brazilian company must initially submit the application to the Ministry of Justice.
4. RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY: individuals who wish to travel to Brazil for religious or missionary purpose. Additional documents
required:

|
Travel itinerary or reservation
|
- A printed copy of your booked round-trip ticket (or a simulated itinerary showing travel plans to and from Brazil elaborated on an internet site or by a travel agency), with applicant’s full name and departure/arrival dates.
|
Documents required from the Brazilian institution
|
- Charter and bylaws.
- Proof of powers of attorney of its leader.
- The notarized financial affidavit, guaranteeing the maintenance of the applicant and his/her family in Brazil and their repatriation at term.
|
Marriage or birth certificate
|
- For accompanying family members, if applicable.
|
Statement of commitment
|
- Signed and notarized.
- Must state the applicant will not engage in any activity in Indigenous areas without the proper authorization by FUNAI - National Indian Foundation.
|
Notarized transcripts
|
- Ordination certificate and/or diploma and school transcripts for complete undergraduate theological studies.
|
Recent résumé
|
- A document used by individuals to present their background and skillsets.
|
Proof of residence
|
- Applicant must provide proof of residence within our jurisdiction for the past 12 months (example: copy of driver's license or a copy of the bill with the applicant's name and address.

5. VOLUNTARY SERVICE, WITH STAY OF MORE THAN 90 DAYS
|
|
Recent résumé
|
- Document indicating studies in the area and/or previous experiences with volunteering.
|
Proof of residence
|
- Applicant must provide proof of residence within our jurisdiction for the past 12 months (example: copy of driver's license or a copy of a bill with the applicant's name and address.
|
Documents from the Brazilian organization or church
|
- Original invitation letter addressed to the applicant, indicating: a) which activity he/she will be expected to perform; b) when and where such activities will be performed; c) the volunteer nature of the mission (therefore, no financial compensation can be provided); d) full financial responsibility for the applicant during his/her stay and for his/her return to Canada upon completion of the mission.
- Registration at the "Conselho de Assistência Social"(Welfare Council) issued within the last 6 months OR proof of qualification as an "OSCIP" issued by the Ministry of Justice within the last 6 months;
- Proof of CNPJ registration status issued by Receita Federal do Brasil within the last 6 months;
- Record of constitution, such as a social statute or the record of designation;
- Record of current direction's election or designation.

6. ARTISTIC OR SPORTS ACTIVITY, WITH STAY OF MORE THAN 90 DAYS
The sponsor or promoter of the event must initially submit the application to the Ministry of Justice in Brazil.
7. FAMILY REUNION
Family reunion visa allows family members of Brazilian nationals or Brazilian residents to establish residence in Brazil.

|
- Proof of relationship to the Brazilian national or foreign citizen resident in Brazil, e.g.: birth or marriage certificate.

Brazilian ID
|
- Official ID of the Brazilian spouse.
|
Declaration of the spouse's residence
|
- Declaration of the Brazilian spouse, under the penalties of the law, that he/she resides in Brazil or intends to reside and for what period of time.
|
Foreign applicant:
Declaration of a criminal record absence
|
- Declaration by the foreign applicant, under penalties of the law, of an absence of criminal records in any country, in the 5 years prior to the date of the visa application.
|
In cases of family reunion by marriage/stable union:
Joint declaration
|
- A joint statement of the Brazilian and foreign parties, under the penalties of the law, regarding the continuity of effective union and coexistence.
