All visa requests must be sent for analysis through the e-consular system and, only after being validated, they must be submitted by mail. A visa will not start being processed by the Consulate until both these steps are completed. There are no walk-ins or appointments being offered for visas.

- Gather all necessary documents
- Fill out the online visa application form and upload all required documents to it
- Access the e-consular system to request the service and wait for validation
- Send the documents by mail following instructions received at time of validation
DO I NEED A VISA?
Nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States are currently exempt of Visitor Visas. This exemption includes traveling to Brazil for purposes of tourism, business, transit and sportive or artistic activities to which the maximum allowed stay is 90 days, extendable for the same period, provided that the visitor does not exceed 180 days of stay in the Brazilian territory every 12 months, counting from the date of first entry.
Nationals of Australia, Canada and the United States will need a visitor visa to travel to Brazil as of April 10th, 2025. If you are a citizen of these countries, you can request an electronic visa (e-Visa) and there is no need to come to the Consulate to have the document issued. The e-Visa request can be made on this website: brazil.vfsevisa.com. The fee will be US$ 80.90. Processing time is approximately 5 business days.
For all other nationalities, you can check if a visa is needed here (last updated 04/Jun/24).
WHAT TYPE OF VISA DO I NEED AND WHAT ARE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS?
For most travel purposes with stays of up to 90 days, you will need a Visitor Visa.
For all other circumstances, please check if you are eligible for a Temporary Visa.
HOW DO I APPLY?
1) In order to apply for a Brazilian visa, you need to fill in the online visa application form:
- The Application Form must be completed online.
- Make sure you have all required documents at hand, as you will need to upload them.
- After the completion of the Form, click on "Complete Application" to receive an application number.
- After you submit your application form, a Receipt (RER) is generated. The RER must be printed and signed by the applicant.
2) Print and sign the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER). Even if your photo has been successfully uploaded to the Application Form, you must provide a printed copy that follows the ICAO standards (see instructions here).
3) Login to the e-consular system to send your request to the Consulate for validation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1) UNTRUSTED CONNECTION:
When trying to access the electronic form, should your browser display a message saying the ‘connection is untrusted’ or not secure, please disregard it and proceed as indicated below:
Add a security exception in order to be able to proceed (‘Add Exception’ > ‘Confirm Security Exception’). This occurs because the security certificate may not be automatically recognized by some browsers. Please be advised that the website you are redirected to is a secure website. The security certificate is issued by the Brazilian company responsible for the software used by the Brazilian Government.
2) INVITATION LETTER FOR FOREIGNERS:
While there is no single model for invitation letters, some information is mandatory, such as: complete name of applicant, nationality, purpose of the trip, intended period of stay and address of host. The host's signature should be notarized in Brazil and the applicant should be prepared to present the original document to the consulate upon request.
3) APPLYING THROUGH A THIRD PARTY:
A third party can only apply on your behalf if you live within our jurisdiction (Ontario, Manitoba and Nunavut).
4) VISA AGENCIES:
The Consulate does not recommend or endorse any visa agency.
5) JURISDICTIONAL LIMITS:
Applications received by mail from outside our jurisdiction will be returned to the sender.
6) VACCINATION OR PROPHYLAXIS:
Although not mandatory, the vaccination against yellow fever is recommended for all international travelers visiting Brazil. For more information, visit the World Health Organization website, or the Brazilian Ministry of Health (Ministério da Saúde) website.
