APOSTILLE OF CANADIAN DOCUMENTS
Canada has effectively become part of the Hague Apostille Convention ("Convention on the Elimination of the Requirement for Legalization of Public Documents") as of January 11, 2024. From that date on, documents issued by Canadian authorities can no longer be legalized by the Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto. The new process is called "apostille" and will be carried out directly by Canadian authorities.
In Brazil, the Apostille Convention has been in force since August 14, 2016. Apostille of Brazilian documents is only carried out in Brazil, by notary offices authorized by the National Council of Justice (CNJ). The CNJ is the Brazilian body responsible for regulating the "Apostille Convention". How to obtain apostille of Canadian documents?
Access the Authentication of documents page on the Global Affairs website for complete instructions.
If you have any questions, please contact the competent authorities directly. With the entry into force of the new procedure, the Consulate no longer has any participation in the process of authenticating Canadian documents.
