Press Release #375
New date for the resumption of visitor visa requirements for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States
Decree nº 11.515, of May 2, 2023, had established that, as of October 1, Brazil would resume the requirement for short-stay visas for citizens of Australia, Canada, the United States and Japan.
As announced last August, the Brazilian government reached an agreement with Japan to reciprocally exempt short-stay visitors from the visa requirement.
As a result, it was necessary to make adjustments to the bidding process for hiring the company that will offer electronic visa services for nationals of those three countries, as part of the implementation of Decree nº 11.515.
For this reason, with the publication yesterday, September 5, 2023, of Decree nº 11.692, the new date for the resumption of the requirement for short-stay visas for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States was set for January 10, 2024. The change will also allow for a longer period of testing prior to the start of the requirement.
In the interests of Brazilian nationals, the government will be ready to negotiate visa waiver agreements with the three aforementioned countries based on the principles of reciprocity and equality between states.
