VITEM VIII: Volunteer Services
(More than 90 days)
The VITEM VIII visa may be granted to an individual who will perform volunteer work with an NGO or foreign government-sponsored organization in Brazil for more than 90 days.
FROM THE APPLICANT:
- Original passport (signed, valid up to the end of Brazil trip, with at least 2 visa blank pages)
- Proof of residence in the U.S. (copy of visa or Green Card) for non-U.S. citizens
- Proof of residence in consular jurisdiction (copy of a valid driver's license or utility bill will be accepted as proof of residence)

- Passport-style photo (2”x 2”, white background)
- USPS money order – see visa fees here
- Birth Certificate (original and one copy)
- FBI Background Check (issued within the past 60 days)
- Document from the applicant stating professional experience or qualification compatible with activities to be carried out in Brazil
- Extra USPS Priority Express envelope, pre-paid and self-addressed (this will be used to mail your passport back to you)
FROM THE ORGANIZATION IN BRAZIL:
- Letter of invitation from the inviting institution/church/OSCIP/NGO institution in Brazil. This letter must mention applicant’s exact role and
activities during his/her time in Brazil, as well as the location and duration of the engagement. It must be signed by someone legally responsible for the
institution/church/OSCIP/NGO, i.e. a member of the board of directors
- Copy of notarized Articles of Incorporation (ato constitutivo) of inviting institution in Brazil and Brazilian institution’s bylaws (estatuto social)
properly registered with the state government
- Notarized declaration of nomination, designation or election of the current board of directors of the inviting institution (Ato de nomeação, designação
ou eleição da atual diretoria da entidade requerente)
- Affidavit from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the maintenance of the volunteer in Brazil and and his/her repatriation before
his/her visa expires
- Affidavit of responsibility for applicant, stating institution’s commitment to provide for all of applicant’s needs while in Brazil, including full responsibility
for all hospital and medical expenses of the volunteer and his/her dependents while their stay in Brazil.
- Document stating the Brazilian institution is operating regularly.
- Certificado de Qualificação da instituição como “Organização da Sociedade Civil de Interesse Público” (OSCIP) issued by the Brazilian Ministry of Justice
❖ If the institution is not an OSCIP: License or permit for the Brazilian institution issued by the Council of Social Assistance (Comprovante de inscrição no Conselho de Assistência Social) *Churches are exempt from this requirement
