VISIT VISAS FOR NON US PASSPORT HOLDERS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY!
Until April 10th, 2024, US passport holders are exempt from visas for purposes of tourism, business, transit, and sportive or artistic activities, for up to 90 days of stay.
Visitor Visa (VIVIS) may be granted, for stays up to 90 days, to visitors for the following purposes:
1. Tourism: sightseeing, informative trips, cultural trips, educational trips, leisure, family visit, conferences, seminars, congresses, and meetings.
2. Business: business meetings and events, fairs, contract signatures, audits, consulting;
3. Artistic or sports activity.
4. Health treatment.
5. Study, research, teaching, academic extension, and supervised academic training.
6. Volunteer work.
7. Adoption of Brazilian minor.
8. Aircraft or ship crew members.
9. Journalistic coverage and filming.
Visitor visa fees:
Angola: USD 180.00
Algeria: USD 85.00
China: USD 115.00
Passport of other countries: USD 80.00
Important Rules about Visitor Visa (VIVIS):
NO EMPLOYMENT IN BRAZIL: The beneficiary of a visitor visa is prohibited from engaging in paid employment in Brazil.
STOPOVERS AND TRANSIT: No visa is required for stopovers or connections in Brazilian airports, provided that the visitor does not leave the international transit area. If the traveler is going to leave the international transit area, a visit visa is required.
THE SAME VISITOR VISA CAN BE USED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES: A visitor visa can be used for different purposes, on the same trip, or on different occasions, provided the purposes are covered by the visitor visa rules listed above. For example, you can apply for a visitor visa for a tourist visit and, in the future, use the same visa for a business trip; or you can do business and tourism on the same trip.
VISITOR VISAS ARE USUALLY GOOD FOR MULTIPLE ENTRIES. The Brazilian Government decides at its own
discretion the type of Visa and duration granted. The maximum stay will be decided by the Federal Police
of Brazil.
General Requirements:
1. PASSPORT: Signed, valid up to the end of your trip, and with at least one visa blank page available (amendment pages are not accepted);
2. Visa Application Form at the link https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/servicos-estrangeiros. One per applicant, completely filled out online and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians. You will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code;
3. PHOTO: One recent 2” x 2” passport-photo size, front view, white background;
4. Evidence of INCOME: Proof of financial capability during the stay in Brazil (i.e., copy of bank/credit card statements or paychecks/paystubs for fothe most recent three months);
5. Evidence of LEGAL STAY IN THE U.S.: copy of the green card or valid visa;
6. Airline ticket or the form HERE.
7. To request visa for MINORS: both parents must sign the form HERE.
8. Proof of Address - only residents in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania may apply.
PLEASE NOTE: Additional documents may be requested at the discretion of the Consular Authority.
Once you have gathered the documents, register on E-CONSULAR, choose the service “Brazilian Visa - stay duration - up to 90 days (NOT FOR US PASSPORT HOLDERS)” and follow the instructions to have your documents analyzed and validated. After the validation, the system will allow you to schedule your appointment.
Check below the step-by-step instructions regarding the first access to the E-CONSULAR and its basic operation:
1. Log in - Access the E-CONSULAR system (https://ec-novayork.itamaraty.gov.br) and register with your e-mail or
Brazilian CPF.
If you choose to use your e-mail for the registration, a message from E-CONSULAR will be sent to your email with an access code, which should be inserted into the system. Next, you need to create a password and insert your contact information.
2. Choose your service: You will be automatically directed to the tab “My Services”, where it will be possible to choose the desired service by clicking on “New Service”.
3. Fill out the information and send images of the paperwork: Read the instructions carefully and fill in all the fields with the requested information. Upload the images of the required documentation in each field of the electronic form. When using your smartphone you will be able to take photos of documents.
4. Complete the request - After filling in all the information, submit the request.
5. Wait for the answer - You will receive an e-mail with one of the following information:
- Authorization for the applicant to schedule an appointment; or
- A request to correct or complete information that has been submitted.
If you receive a message requesting to correct or complete information, process the changes/additions and resubmit the validation request.
6. Validation - Upon successful verification of your complete documentation, the Consulate will transmit an email containing instructions for scheduling your appointment.
Additional documents may be requested at the Consular Authority’s discretion.
