BRAZILIAN VISAS - GENERAL RULES

Please do not visit the Consulate without an appointment.
Visa requests must be scheduled through the E-Consular Platform.
All visit visas must be requested in Person.
Submission of documents via USPS mail is reserved for rarely permitted, authorized exceptions. In such instances, exclusively utilize Priority Mail Express envelopes for guaranteed tracking and expedited delivery.
Types of Visas
Visit Visa will be issued to foreigners traveling to Brazil for staying up to 90 days without purposes of immigration or the exercise of paid activity (daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation or other travel expenses are allowed). Visit visas can be granted for those traveling for tourism, business, transit, artistic or sports activities, study, volunteer work, or to attend to conferences, seminars or meetings, among other purposes - provided there is no remuneration in Brazil and the stay does not exceed 90 days.
Temporary Visas are granted to foreign citizens in the following situations:
Temporary Visa I: research, teaching or academic extension;
Temporary Visa II: health care visa;
Temporary Visa III: humanitarian visa;
Temporary Visa IV: student;
Temporary Visa V: work visa;
Temporary Visa VII: as a minister of a religious confession;
Temporary Visa VIII – voluntary work visa;
Temporary Visa IX – investor visa;
Temporary Visa X – visa for activities of economic, scientific, technological or cultural relevance;
Temporary Visa XI – family reunification visa;
Temporary Visa XII – artistic or sports activities visa;
Temporary Visa XIV – retirement visa and Digital Nomad visa;
Diplomatic Visa: granted to foreign authorities and employees who have diplomatic status and travel to Brazil on an official mission, either on temporary or permanent basis, representing foreign Governments or International Organizations recognized by Brazil.
Official Visa: granted to foreign administrative staff traveling to Brazil on an official mission, either on temporary or permanent basis, representing foreign Governments or International Organizations recognized by the Brazilian government; or to any foreigners traveling to Brazil under official seal of their States.
Courtesy Visa: granted to personalities and foreign authorities in an unofficial trip to Brazil; spouse or partner, regardless of their gender, dependents and other family members who do not benefit from Diplomatic or Official Visa for family reunification; domestic workers of foreign Mission based in Brazil or of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; foreign artists and sportsperson traveling to Brazil for free and eminently cultural events.
Important:
1-Make sure you are applying for the appropriate type of Brazilian visa, based on the reason for your trip and the intended period of stay in Brazil.
2-Check beforehand the requirements and mandatory documents for the type of visa you're applying for.
3-Fill out the visa application form at the link https://formulario-mre.serpro.gov.br/sci/pages/web/ui/#/servicos-estrangeiros
4-Submit the mandatory documents for the type of visa you're applying for on the E-CONSULAR platform: ec-novayork.itamaraty.gov.br.
5-To request visa for MINORS: both parents must sign the form HERE.

7-The applicant must upload to the E-Consular Platform a photo of the visa application form receipt (RER) and a photo of the personal data page of the passport .
8-The appointment request will be electronically reviewed by our staff. Once it is validated, the applicant will receive a confirmation email authorizing the applicant to book his/her appointment through the E-Consular platform. You will also be notified by e-mail if one or more information/document of the visa application need to be rectified.
9- Applicants are required to present the original versions of all documents uploaded to the E-CONSULAR platform in person.
PAYMENT OF FEE: the visa consular fee MUST be paid with U.S. Postal Service Money Order ONLY, made out to the Consulate General of Brazil in New York.
Cash, Cards and NON-USPS money orders are NOT accepted.
