TEMPORARY VISA - STUDY
Please be advised that Temporary visas may be granted to applicants who intend to establish temporary residence (for more than 90 days). If you intend to stay in Brazil for less than 90 days, you must apply for a Visit Visa.
Typical applicants are students participating in exchange programs, internships or short-term courses in Brazil.
Qualified applicants:

Students pursuing technical short-term studies (such as Portuguese and Brazilian culture classes);

Students pursuing undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate academic or theological studies;

Student interns.

Students on scholarship or exchange programs with a Brazilian institution of higher education.
Requirements:
General Requirements:
1. PASSPORT: Signed, valid up to the end of your trip, and with at least one visa blank page available (amendment pages are not accepted).
2. Visa Application Form: One per applicant, completely filled out online and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians. You will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code.
3. PHOTO: One recent 2” x 2” passport-photo size, front view, white background.
4. Evidence of INCOME: Proof of financial capability during the stay in Brazil (i.e., copy of bank/credit card statements or paychecks/paystubs).
5. Evidence of LEGAL STAY IN THE U.S.: copy of the green card or valid visa.

A letter of acceptance from the Brazilian institution stating the length of the program. This letter must be legalized by a notary public in Brazil ("assinatura reconhecida em cartório");

Proof that the school, college or university is registered at the Ministry of Education in Brazil;

Students doing university exchange programs must present a letter of presentation from their university of origin;

If over 18 years of age: FBI BACKGROUND CHECK issued within the last 3 months (request may be submitted to an FBI - approved Channeler);

Proof of financial capability during stay in Brazil (i.e., copy of bank or credit card statement, copy of savings certificate, letter from the employer, etc.) or affidavit from organization sponsoring the scholarship stating that it is responsible for the student. The signature(s) must be certified by a notary public.

Birth certificate: original, certified/notarized copy of birth certificate.

Interns: Requirements A and B do not apply to student interns. Instead, you must present: a signed agreement between the intern, the Brazilian entity (where student will be intern) and the sending institution (school where the student is enrolled), confirming the activities in which the student will be engaged and the student’s qualifications to exercise said activities. All signatures must be notarized.

Fulbright students: FBI Background Check is waived for these applicants.

The student visa will be issued for a maximum of one year and is good for multiple entries;

Whenever the planned stay exceeds 30 days, visitors must register with the Federal Police, within 30 days from first arrival in Brazil.

The visa may be extended in Brazil by the Federal Police (Departamento de Polícia Marítima, Aeroportuária e de Fronteiras-DPMAF), if requested at least 30 days prior to the expiration of the authorized stay (special requirements apply), according to the duration of the study and documentation presented to local authority;

Students who plan to visit Brazil for graduate studies or specialization in the medical field must also present: (a) proof that the applicant has finished medical school and (b) document signed by those responsible for the course in Brazil stating that (i) the applicant will not practice medicine or medical actions in Brazil, except those required for the applicant's training, which must be practiced only in the institution to which the visitor is attached, (ii) that the preceptor is responsible for the visitor before the Regional Medical Council as per Art. 7, caput c/c §5º of Resolution no. 1832/2008 of the Federal Medical Council, (iii) that the preceptor is responsible for officially notifying the Regional Medical Council of the visitor's presence as per Art. 7 of said Resolution.
