How to Apply for a Visa
CITIZENS OF CANADA, AUSTRALIA AND THE UNITED STATES PLANNING TO TRAVEL TO BRAZIL FOR TOURISM (STAYS UP TO 90 DAYS) FROM 10 APRIL 2025 WILL BE REQUIRED AN ELECTRONIC ENTRY VISA (E-VISA). YOU CAN APPLY FOR THE E-VISA ONLY THROUGH THE ELECTRONIC SITE https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/. THE TOTAL COST OF THE E-VISA IS US$ 80.90 (U.S. DOLLARS), PAYABLE ONLY ON THE ELECTRONIC SITE https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/.
For all other nationalities that need a visitor visa, or for temporary visas, please follow the instructions below.
First, bear in mind that a visa application has two steps PRIOR to sending the documentation to the consulate:
1) You need to fill the online visa application form in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' system
AND
2) Documentation must be uploaded online to the E-CONSULAR platform, for validation prior to sending the documents to the consulate.
The consulate does not process in person visa requests. You may have to come to the consulate for a personal interview, though.
How to apply
1) In order to apply for a Brazilian visa, you need to fill in the online visa application form .
- The Application Form must be completed exclusively online.
- Make sure you have your personal documents at hand.
- Some of the fields of the Application Form are mandatory.
- Upload of your photo is mandatory.
- After the completion of the Form, click on "Complete Application" to receive an application number.
- After you submit your application, a Receipt (RER) is generated. The Receipt must be printed and signed by the applicant, and the original documentation must be uploaded in the e-consular platform, for validation, and after validation sent/delivered to the consulate.
2) Print and sign the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER). See sample below:

- Even if your photo has been uploaded to the Application Form, you must provide a printed copy of it. Glue your photo in the corresponding field of the printed Receipt. Follow the ICAO standards (see instructions here).
3) Complete the electronic request for the visa and upload all your documents at the e-consular platfom, following the instructions given on that platform. The documents must be validated at the platform before you send them to the consulate. WAIT FOR THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL.
4) The Consulate will send an email informing that your request has been validated - only when you received said email, send the original documents presented at the e-consular by mail or put them on the drop box located right outside the Consulate's door. IMPORTANT: Include in your application package a self-addressed pre-paid envelope for the return of your documents after processing (XpressPost or similar with tracking number). Please make sure the address is correct, as the documentation will be returned to the address indicated at the envelope.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1) UNTRUSTED CONNECTION:
When trying to access the electronic form, should your browser display a message saying the ‘connection is untrusted’ or not secure, please disregard it and proceed as indicated below:
- Add a security exception in order to be able to proceed (‘Add Exception’ > ‘Confirm Security Exception’).
This occurs because the security certificate may not be automatically recognized by some browsers. Please be advised that the website you are redirected to is a secure website. The security certificate is issued by the Brazilian company responsible for the software used by the Brazilian Government.
2) INVITATION LETTER FOR FOREIGNERS:
There is no single model for invitation letters, but some elements are mandatory, such as: complete name of the applicant, nationality, purpose of the trip and intended period of stay. The letter must be notarized in Brazil and the original document must be sent to the applicant, in order to be presented to the consulate when applying for the visa.
3) APPLYING THROUGH A THIRD PARTY:
A third party can only apply on your behalf if you live within our jurisdiction (Quebec -except the National Capital Region, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador).
4) VISA AGENCIES:
The Consulate does not recommend or endorse any visa agency.
5) JURISDICTIONAL LIMITS:
Applications received by mail from outside our jurisdiction will be returned to the sender.
6) VACCINATION OR PROPHYLAXIS:
Although not mandatory, the vaccination against yellow fever is recommended for all international travelers visiting Brazil.
