- All Brazilian citizens between 18 and 70 years-old must fulfill their electoral obligations (voting is mandatory for this age group), in spite of residing abroad and/or having other nationalities.
- Voting is optional for citizens between 16 and 18 years-old and over 70 years-old, and for the illiterate.
- The Electoral Justice Department (TSE) has determined that printed electoral cards for those domiciled abroad will no longer be issued, therefore, it is not necessary to collect the document at the Consulate anymore.

If your voter' status is irregular/cancelled:
- If, for any reason, you did not vote or justify your absence in previous elections, your voters' status might be irregular or cancelled. If this is the case, you will not be able to apply for a new Brazilian passport before updating your voting status.
