- Brazilian citizens are entitled to apply for a birth certificate for their children born outside Brazil.
- The certificate is a proof of the children's parents' names and is a guarantee of their rights as Brazilian citizens.
- If you or your child has never been registered as Brazilian, please check the information regarding birth registration for Brazilian citizens born abroad.
- There are no restrictions as to the principle of multiple citizenships for Brazilian citizens who have an original citizenship as result of birth (jus soli) or ascendancy (jus sanguinis).
LOSS OF CITIZENSHIP:
- The Brazilian citizen will lose his/her citizenship if he/she acquires another citizenship, except in the cases of:
- He/she has his/her naturalization cancelled, by a judicial decision, as a result of activities that are harmful to the national interest.
- Recognition of original citizenship by the foreign legislation or
- Imposition of naturalization, as a requirement to acquire civil rights in the country the person resides.
BRAZILIAN CITIZENSHIP STATUS RESTORATION:
The Brazilian citizen who lost his/her citizenship, as a result of the circumstances mentioned above, can apply for restoration by submitting a citizenship re-acquisition application so his/her decree of loss of citizenship can be officially revoked.
