CPF - Information for foreigners
You must submit all documents to the Consulate-General of Brazil in Miami through the e-Consular system.
General Information
Foreign citizens who, in Brazil, own or wish to own assets and rights subject to public registration, including properties, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, corporate interests, bank accounts or applications in the financial market must be registeredd in the Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas - Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF).
The CPF number is assigned only once, with no possibility of second registration. The CPF number will be generated at the time of issuance and will appear on the receipt that will be given to the applicant. The number must be kept in a safe place or it must be memorized.
Anyone who has forgotten their CPF number should request it in Brazil, from a Receita Federal (RFB) unit, as due to tax secrecy, this problem cannot be resolved in the Consulate-General of Brazil in Miami. If necessary, the request may be made by a representative of the interested party in Brazil, by power of attorney. Foreigners must draw up a power of attorney at a local public notary, apostille the document and then translate it into Portuguese with a sworn public translator.
As set out in Joint COCAD/COGEA Ordinance No. 53/2023, foreigners who are abroad must present their CPF requests to Brazilian consular offices abroad, through in-person service.
The service is free.
