Investment (VITEM IX)
a) General rules
- Based on Normative Resolution 11/2017.
- A temporary visa may be granted to a foreign citizen who will represent a financial institution or a business group that will carry out direct investment in a company established in Brazilian territory.
- This type of visa requires approval from the Brazilian Ministry of Labour, who, then, will send the authorisation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Application procedures for this type of visa have to be initiated in Brazil through the Brazilian Ministry of Labour.
- Within 90 days of entry in Brazil, holders of this type of visa must register at the Federal Police (click here) and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Consulate.
b) Length of stay in Brazil
Granted period: indefinite leave.
Validity: visa is valid for 1 year. This means that the applicant must use the visa within 1 year from date of issue before expiration.

Visa application form |
Must be filled in online (click here). Please print and bring the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER) to the appointment. It is very important to state the parents’ full names, as displayed in your birth/marriage certificate. For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents. Please note: the Consulate will only accept applications in which the required documents on this table have been uploaded to the form. |

Police check (applicants aged 18 years old or over) |
It can be obtained at any police station in the UK. Alternatively, an ACRO Certificate can be accepted. Both certificates are only valid for 3 months after issuance. Please note: If the applicant has lived in multiple countries within the last 12 months, a police check from each country must be provided. They must also be duly legalised by the respective Brazilian consular authority with jurisdiction over these countries, and translated by a sworn translator, if necessary. |

Original full birth certificate |
If British, present the Certified Copy of an Entry of Birth – full form. In the absence of the full birth certificate, the applicant may submit another official document that contains the parents’ full names. Please note: if the document has been issued in a country other than the United Kingdom or the British Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies (Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man), click here to learn how to proceed. |
* Applicants willing to travel accompanied by their spouse / partner / children, please click here to check their eligibility. If eligible, you must submit, in addition to the above-mentioned items (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5), the original marriage certificate (or equivalent) and/or the full birth certificate of each child. If issued in another country, the certificate(s) will have to be duly legalised by the Brazilian diplomatic representation in that country.
d) Family reunion
Applicants willing to take their spouse / partner / children / other dependants, please click here to check their eligibility. Dependants may be granted a Family Reunion Visa (VITEM XI), bound to the primary VITEM IX application, thus subject to the same conditions (e.g. same length of stay etc.). Family applications may be lodged jointly or after the primary applicant’s VITEM IX has been issued.
