Important information
- Passports will not have their validity reduced if the applicant has not registered their fingerprints at the Consulate.
- The new passport may be requested at any time, and there is no need to wait for the current passport to expire.
- It is recommended that nationals of Brazil enter and leave the country with a Brazilian passport.
- It is the citizen's responsibility to check if their passport is valid. The validity of a passport is never extended.
- Brazilian passport holders are not allowed to enter the 26 countries of the Schengen area if the validity of their passport is inferior to 3 months on the date they are expected to leave the territory of the member country. In this case, airline companies and airport authorities can prevent the passenger from boarding and deny entry in the final destination.
- Denial to board due to insufficient validity does not constitute a valid reason for the Consulate to process a new emergency travel document.
Authorisation for Return to Brazil - ARB
The Consulate General may issue a travel document, free of charge, to the Brazilian national who needs to return to Brazil urgently and/or is unable to submit the required documentation to issue a new passport.
The ARB (Authorisation for Return to Brazil) allows the holder to make one single direct journey to Brazil. Flights with stopovers at international airports, in which the passenger does not leave the boarding area, are considered direct journeys to Brazil.
The issue of the ARB is done at the Consulate's discretion, according to each circumstance. The ARB is valid during the period necessary to complete the journey; usually up to 7 days.
Please read carefully all instructions regarding documents required for ARB applications in the following table.
