Important information
- Military service is compulsory for all Brazilian men, except clergymen.
- Brazilians living abroad must keep compliance with their military obligations from the age of 18 to 45.
- Male Brazilian nationals living abroad must enlist up to 30 June of the year they complete 18 years of age at their nearest Brazilian Consulate.
- Brazilians living abroad for at least 3 months may request discharge from military service at or after enlistment.
- The consular authority can enlist Brazilians from 18 up to 45 years of age. After military enlistment, the Brazilian shall receive a Military Draft Certificate - CAM (Certificado de Alistamento Militar).
- Military services rendered by the Consulate General are free of charge.
Military conscription
At conscription, the Brazilian can already request discharge from military service.

Annual report & Discharge from military services
Brazilian conscripts living abroad used to have to report to the Consulate every year for deferment of induction. This is no longer necessary. It is possible to apply for discharge from military services.
The discharge can also be requested straight after enlistment.

Residence declaration |
Only for conscripts under 28 years old. Fill in and present the form. Conscripts over 28 years of age can be discharged from service independently of their length of residence abroad. The following are accepted: proof of address, or document attesting the applicant is enrolled and attending a course, or proof of employment, for at least 3 months. In the absence of these, the consular residence declaration is also accepted. |

Issue of replacement copy
The issue of replacement copies of the following military documents can be requested:
- Military Draft Certificate (CAM) ["Certificado de Alistamento Militar"]
- Reservist Certificate (CR) ["Certificado de Reservista"]
- Discharge Certificate (CDI) ["Certificado de Dispensa de Incorporação"]
- Exemption Certificate (CI) ["Certificado de Isenção"]
- Others (please check at the Military Department)
Required documentation
- One photocopy of a Brazilian ID document displaying parents' full names (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate or identity card);
- Military document application form completed and signed
- Photo ID document (Brazilian passport or identity card - RG). The document must allow the clear identification of the individual. If the Brazilian passport or identity card (RG) are very old, another official photo ID must be submitted, even if it is a foreign document (passport, driving licence, residence card etc.).
