General information

a. The residence certificate confirms how long an individual who is definitively returning to Brazil has lived abroad.

b. Those who simply require proof of their current address in the United Kingdom must request a residence declaration. Click here to request a residence certificate for a minor child.

c. Although it is not mandatory, submission of the residence certificate to the inland revenue ("Receita Federal") is usually required in order to obtain customs tax exemption when returning definitively to Brazil after having lived in the United Kingdom uninterruptedly for a minimum period of one year.

d. Should you have queries about customs procedures or payment of fees and taxes, contact the inland revenue ("Receita Federal").

e. The Consulate does not issue retroactive residence certificates, i.e. referring to a period preceding the current date. The period to be registered on the certificate must necessarily correspond to the latest 12 months or more, and must be dully verified for use with the inland revenue.

Required documents

Please read carefully all instructions regarding documents required to request residence certificates on the table below:

1	Original identification document	Brazilian citizens: submit a valid Brazilian passport or identity card (RG). Foreign citizens: submit a valid National Registry of Foreigners (RNE) card or a valid passport.
2	Residence certificate form	Click here to download, print and complete the form. This service is available by post only. The signature on the form must be similar to the one on the document provided.
3	Documents attesting the period of residence	The following documents will be accepted: All original payslips for the period, clearly displaying the employee's name; or All original bank statements for the period (containing detailed banking transactions and identification of the account holder); or Original detailed transcript of academic records describing the period of on-site uninterrupted study; or Recently dated original letter from the applicant's employer, university or school, containing the his/her full name, address and period (dd/mm/yyyy) during which s/he carried out on-site professional, academic or school activities. The letter must be signed by the company's or school's representative and the signature must be certified by a British notary public or solicitor. The document must subsequently be legalised by the FCO (get an apostille). Note: the registered residence period will correspond to the oldest evidence presented until the present date. The documentation must be organised chronologically.
4	Proof of address	Original recent bank statements or utility bills (water, energy, gas, telephone, Council Tax) are accepted.
