Withdrawal of FGTS

You can apply for withdrawal of FGTS online, via the App FGTS (available for iOS and Android).

General information

a. In order to have the right to withdraw their FGTS, workers who have been formally employed in Brazil with FGTS contribution, must meet one of the following conditions:

• Not have been formally employed in Brazil for the last 3 years (attested by entry on the work permit booklet)
• Not have had earnings paid into the FGTS account in the last 3 years
• Have had an employment agreement in Brazil terminated without cause
• Have had a temporary work agreement in Brazil expired by end of term
• Normal expiration of temporary work agreement in Brazil
• Have had retirement granted by the Brazilian social security

b. The service is free of charge. If the applicant is a foreign citizen who does not hold a valid RNE – Brazilian registry of foreigners card - , the signature and copies of required documents must be previously certified by a British notary public and subsequently be apostilled by the FCO – Foreign Commonwealth Office.

How to request

Request processing

The request is processed by Caixa Econômica Federal from the date they receive the documentation.

Once processing is concluded, an e-mail is sent to the party concerned stating whether the request has been approved or not:

• If the request has been approved, the amount to be paid will be informed. 
• If it has been denied, the applicant will be informed of the reason, and Caixa may request that additional documents be presented. 

The balance shall be paid into the bank account informed on the FGTS withdrawal request form.
