Residence certificate for minor children (living abroad)
To whom it applies
Brazilian minor children proven to reside in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
As the document is not free of charge and has a more limited use, it is recommended that it is used in cases in which the parent who should authorise the trip:
a. Is at an unknown location;
b. Is unable to sign the document, for physical or legal reasons; or
c. Resides in Brazil and refuses to sign the travel authorisation so that the child is forced to return to his/her country of residence with the guardian parent.
Document characteristics
- It substitutes the travel authorisation of one of the parents or legal guardians, for the purpose of exiting national territory, as it proves the minor child resides abroad and, when leaving Brazil, the child will return to his/her country of residence (in this case, the United Kingdom or Northern Ireland).
- It can only be used when the minor child is travelling in the company of one of the parents or legal guardians.
- It cannot be used when the minor child is travelling unaccompanied or in the company or a third party.
- As opposed to other authorisation types, it does not allow the minor child to travel within Brazilian territory, which requires specific authorisation of the parent(s) or legal guardian(s).
- The original residence certificate (or a certified copy) must be submitted at border control. A simple or certified copy of the document, provided by the holder, as well as a copy of the minor child's identification document, shall be retained at departure.
