SECOM ISTAMBUL
The Trade and Investment Promotion Sector (SECOM) of the Consulate General of Brazil in Istanbul aims to promote trade relations between Brazil and Türkiye, especially Brazilian exports, investments in Brazil and tourism to Brazil.
SECOM works in partnership with government ministries and agencies, including the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil), the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Trade and Services; the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), the Brazilian International Tourism Promotion Agency (EMBRATUR) and trade associations.
COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS
- Organization of Brazilian business missions abroad - SECOM schedules contacts with businesspeople and local government bodies, as well as assisting with logistical aspects, in response to demands from sectoral associations and industry federations. The SECOM network also supports the organization of individual trade missions for Brazilian companies to markets of interest.
- Organizing Brazilian participation in international trade fairs - SECOM coordinates Brazilian participation in trade promotion and tourism fairs, including the purchase of institutional space. The selection of trade fairs to be supported by SECOM is based on expressions of interest from Brazilian sectoral associations.
- Organization of buyer/investor missions to Brazil - SECOM supports foreign businesspeople in organizing missions to Brazil, scheduling meetings with the Brazilian government, companies and institutions, depending on the relevance of the mission.
- Cooperation with chambers of commerce - In partnership with local chambers of commerce, SECOM participates in events that promote Brazil and Brazilian companies, organizes business rounds and matchmaking sessions, exchanges information, obtains lists of businesspeople, among others.
BRAZIL TÜRKIYE TRADE RELATIONS
Brazil is the 5th largest country and the 9th largest economy in the world. In 2023, its GDP reached US$2.13 trillion and grew 2.9%. The inflation rate was 4.63% in 2023, the lowest annual level since 2020. Türkiye is the 7th largest economy in Europe and the 17th largest economy in the world. With growth of 4.5% in 2023, its GDP reached US$ 1.1 trillion.
Trade between Brazil and Türkiye reached US$4.96 billion, with approximately US$4.13 billion in Brazilian exports to Türkiye and around US$823 million in Brazilian imports from Türkiye. The main products exported from Brazil to Türkiye are soybeans, iron ore, live cattle, coffee and cotton. The main products imported from Türkiye to Brazil are disodium carbonate, turbojet parts, hazelnuts, transmission shafts and tractor bodies.
There are several Brazilian industrial investments in Türkiye: Votorantim, Banvit (BRF), Hayes Kemmerz Jantas (Maxion), Klimasan (Metalfrio) and WEG. On the other hand, renowned Turkish companies, such as KordSA, also have investments in Brazil. Investors wishing to invest in Brazil would have access to all Mercosur countries.
JURISDICTION
The provinces under the jurisdiction of SECOM Istanbul are: Aydın, Balıkesir, Bilecik, Bursa, Çanakkale, Denizli, Edirne, İstanbul, İzmir, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Kütahya, Manisa, Muğla, Sakarya, Tekirdağ, Uşak and Yalova. Other provinces in Türkiye fall under the jurisdiction of SECOM Ankara.
BRAEXP
The Brazil Export Platform (Braexp), created by Apex-Brasil, is a hub for foreign trade services with a focus on exports by Brazilian enterprises. INVEST EXPORT BRASIL
The Invest Export Brasil website gathers information for entrepreneurs interested in exporting, importing or investing in Brazil. By accessing the portal, companies have access to export markets for Brazilian products, information on import legislation, foreign trade systems and investment opportunities in Brazil.
INVEST IN BRASIL
ApexBrasil is the Brazilian government’s trade and investment promotion agency. Regarding the investment activity, ApexBrasil supports international investors as they analyze the opportunities to establish plants in Brazil, start a partnership with Brazilian companies, or commit capital to Brazil through funds and companies. ApexBrasil’s goal is to satisfy investors’ needs and generate results as they attract technology, innovation, new companies, and create jobs in Brazil.
