Marriage at the consulate
ONLY BETWEEN BRAZILIAN CITIZENS
Marriage at the Consulate can only be celebrated between Brazilian citizens. One of the contracting parties must reside in the Consulate's jurisdiction.
We recommend using a mobile phone or computer with a scanner to fill in the following forms, as you will need to send images (or photos) of documents.
Photos or documents scanned by mobile phone should be clear, only the document should appear, do not photograph other objects.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
1 - If Single:
Birth certificate issued by the Brazilian Registry Office that is less than six months old;
2 - If Divorced:
a) Marriage certificate with the divorce annotation or homologation of the foreign divorce sentence issued by the Superior Court of Justice;
b) Document proving that there are no outstanding issues regarding the division of assets from the previous marriage (divorce decree or public deed declaring consensual divorce).
3 - Widowed couples:
Birth certificate issued less than six months previously with death annotation or previous marriage certificate with death annotation;
4 - Additional documentation required from the couple:
a) Residence Certificate;
b) Original and copy of identity documents (RG or passport) and CPF;
c) The attendance of two Brazilian witnesses of legal age carrying a Brazilian identity document (ID or passport) at the time of the application;
d) If the matrimonial property regime chosen is not partial communion, the couple must sign a prenuptial agreement.
The process will proceed as follows: drawing up of the Notice, which will be posted at the Consulate, and publication of the Notice in the local press. Fifteen days after the Notice is posted, if there is no legal impediment, the marriage will be authorised and can be celebrated within a maximum of 60 days.
