Death Registration
GENERAL INFORMATION
Brazilian citizens who have passed away abroad can have their death registered at the Consulate of the jurisdiction where they died.
The declarant should preferably be the widower, son or daughter, brother/sister or parents of Brazilian nationality. Exceptionally, the declarant may be a foreign national.
The declaration can also be made through an agent, when duly authorized by the declarant in writing. This includes funeral directors authorized by the family.
The consular death certificate must subsequently be transcribed, in Brazil, at the Civil Registry Office of the district where you live or at the Civil Registry Office of the Federal District.
See the new rules for the transfer in Brazil of civil registry certificates issued abroad (Resolution 155/2012 of the National Council of Justice).
