Military Service
ENLISTMENT + EXEMPTION FROM INCORPORATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
1 - Every Brazilian male is obliged to do military service, with the exception of ecclesiastics.
2 - Brazilians living abroad must keep their military status regular between the ages of 18 and 45.
3 - Men of Brazilian nationality living abroad must enlist by 30 June of the year in which they turn 18, at the nearest Brazilian Consular Office.
4 - Brazilians resident abroad for at least 3 months can apply for exemption from military service at the time of enlistment or afterwards.
5 - The consular authority can enlist Brazilians aged 17, provided they turn 18 in the year of enlistment, up to the age limit of 45.
6 - The military services offered by the Consulate General are free of charge.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION
1 - Brazilian birth certificate: original and copy.
- For naturalised Brazilians: original and copy of proof of naturalisation.
- For citizens who have opted for Brazilian nationality: original and copy of the certificate of option.
ATTENTION: If you were born abroad between 1994 and 2007, your birth certificate may contain a "nationality remark". In this case, additional steps may be required.
2 - Original and copy of passport or identity card (RG): the identity document must allow clear identification of the enlistee. If your Brazilian passport or ID card is very old, you should also present another official photo ID, even if it is a foreign one.
3 - Military document application: the application, available here.
It must be filled in and signed. In the multiple choice column, tick the option "certificate of exemption from incorporation (CDI)".
4 - Proof of residence in Turkey: original and copy
NOTE: If necessary, the originals of the documents can be replaced by notarised copies.
Cost: Military enlistment is free of charge.
HOW TO APPLY
It is mandatory for the person concerned to go to the Consulate General to request military services.
Gather the necessary documentation and request the service via the e-consular system: https://ec-istambul.itamaraty.gov.br
Once the documentation has been checked, your visit to the Consulate will be authorised. Keep an eye on your e-mail address to follow up on updates, as the appointment will be made by the concerned person once they have received the e-mail.
On the day of the appointment, don't forget to bring your original documents.
