VITEM XI - Family Reunification

The VITEM XI visa may be granted to an individual (hereby referred to as “applicant”) who is the parent, guardian, grandparent, child, grandchild, spouse, partner, or sibling of a Brazilian citizen or of a temporary or permanent resident in Brazil (hereby referred to as “visa sponsor”).
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Passport (valid and signed with at least two blank Visa pages)
- Proof of residence in the U.S. (visa or Green Card), for non-U.S. citizens
- Visa Application Form Receipt (printed and signed)
- Passport-style photo (2’’x2’’)
- U.S. Postal Service Money Order (see Visa Fees page)
- Dependents of Fulbright Program participants are exempt from this requirement
- Birth Certificate (original and one copy)
- Birth certificate may also serve as proof of the relationship between applicant and visa sponsor (see below) if the former is the child of the latter.
- FBI Background Check (issued within the past 60 days)
- Dependents of Fulbright Program participants are exempt from this requirement
- Minors (younger than 18 years of age at time of application) are exempt from this requirement. See Visa Requirements for Minors page.
- Proof of the relationship between applicant and visa sponsor (one of the following):
- Birth Certificate (if applicant is the child of the visa sponsor)
- Marriage Certificate (if applicant is the spouse of the visa sponsor)
- Documentation proving existence of a civil or stable union, if not legally married.
- ATTENTION: if the documentation proving existence of a civil or stable union is not issued by a Court in Brazil nor by a US Court, applicant must enclose the following additional documents to his/her visa application:
1) Documentation proving existence of a civil or stable union issued by a registry officer in Brazil or by a US registry officer;
2) Declaration signed by two witnesses, as proof of the stable union; and
3) ONE of the following documents:
a) proof of dependency issued by a tax authority or corresponding body of Federal Revenue Service; or
b) religious marriage certificate; or
c) testamentary provisions as proof of relationship; or
d) life insurance policy in which one of the interested parties appears as the holder of the insurance policy and the other as a beneficiary; or
e) deed of purchase and sale, registered with the Property Registry, showing the parties as owners or property lease agrement showing parties as tenants; or
f) joint bank account; or
g) birth certificate of the couple's foreign child; or
h) another document as proof of stable union.
- Documentation proving applicant’s legal guardianship of visa sponsor, or vice versa
- Documentation proving applicant’s financial dependence on visa sponsor, or vice versa
- Sworn affidavit stating that the applicant’s visa sponsor either currently resides or will reside in Brazil.
- Valid Brazilian passport or authorization of residence in Brazil (RNE) of the visa sponsor
- Proof of vaccination for COVID-19 with immunizations approved by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) or by the World Health Organization (WHO) or by the authorities of the country where the traveler has been immunized, whose last dose or single dose has occurred at least fourteen days before the date of boarding.
