CPF - Individual Taxpayer registration
The Brazilian Taxpayer Registration Number (CPF) is mandatory for individuals residing in Brazil or residing abroad who have bank accounts in Brazilian banks, who are beneficiaries of the Brazilian public pension system (INSS) and who own assets or investments in Brazil, including real estate; vehicles; vessels; aircrafts; stock shares; financial market investments; capital market investments.
The CPF number is issued only once (unique and definitive), and it is not possible to register twice. The CPF number will be generated upon registration and recorded on the receipt provided to the applicant. The number must be kept in a safe place or memorised, as "CPF cards" are not issued.
a) Registration:
Please note that the CPF registration at the Consulate can only be requested by a person who never had it before. If you already have a CPF number, please contact directly the Receita Federal (Brazilian Federal Revenue) to ask for more information.
In order to apply, please request an appointment at the Consulate-General through the e-consular platform (select the option "CPF - FOREIGN INDIVIDUALS") and present the required documents listed below:
* Instructions for the online Application form: - Allow pop-ups on your web browser. - Select the country of residence as Hong Kong or Macau. - Select the option "Registration". - The "Voter" field must be left blank. - Click on "Submit" after filling in all the required fields. - Print the receipt. (Write down the protocol number if you are unable to print the receipt).
2. Personal documents:
- full birth certificate (original and copy in English version with both parents' names);
- proof of address in Hong Kong or Macau (telephone bill, water bill, gas bill - in english);
- valid passport (original and copy);
The applicant should bring the registration form to the Consulate General within 15 days of filling it out, along with the documents listed above. The service is free of charge.
b) Change (information correction):
If there is a mistake on the registration i.e., name of applicant, date of birth, address, the applicant should return to the Consulate General and request correction within 90 days of the registration.

c) Alterations/Regularization on existing CPF registration:
In order to apply, please request an appointment at the Consulate-General through the e-consular (select the option "CPF - FOREIGN INDIVIDUALS") and present the required documents listed below.

(Write down the protocol number if you are unable to print the receipt).

- in case of alterations, document that shows the intended change, i.e., copy of marriage certificate showing the change of name after marriage, new address proof, etc.
The applicant should bring the regularization form to the Consulate General within 15 days of filling it out, along with the documents listed above. The service is free of charge.
The Consulate General will send the documents to the Receita Federal (Brazilian Federal Revenue) for approval.
