VITEM VIII – Volunteer Work
Eligibility:
Volunteers and social workers engaged in community work, non-profit or non-governmental organizations or rendering service to a religious institution, without any employment contract in Brazil nor remuneration of any kind, for more than 90 days.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1) PASSPORT: Signed, valid up to the end of your trip and with at least one visa blank page available (amendment pages are not accepted).
2) VISA APPLICATION FORM: One per applicant, completely filled out online and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians. You will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code.
3) PHOTO: One recent 2” x 2” passport-photo size, front view, white background.
4) BACKGROUND CHECK: FBI Clearance or Local Police Department Clearance issued within the last six months.
5) BIRTH CERTIFICATE: Copy of your birth certificate.- If the Birth Certificate is not in English, Portuguese, or French, it must be accompanied by an official translation into one of these languages.
NOTE: Once in Brazil, you must present at Federal Police the birth certificate authenticated by an Apostille. It should be also translated by a certified translator in Brazil (“tradutor juramentado”).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
1) FROM THE ORGANIZATION IN BRAZIL:
1.1) Invitation letter from the Brazilian institution to render service as a volunteer.
1.2) Brazilian institution’s bylaws (“Estatuto Social”) properly registered with the state government.
1.3) Declaration of nomination, designation or election of the current directors.
1.4) License or permit for the Brazilian institution issued by the Council of Social Assistance ("Conselho de Assistência Social”).
1.5) Document stating specific information about the activity to be performed by the volunteer as well as the location and duration of the engagement.
1.6) Affidavit from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the maintenance of the volunteer in Brazil and his/her repatriation at any time following the end of the mission.
1.7) Affidavit from the Brazilian institution guaranteeing full responsibility for all hospital and medical expenses of the volunteer and his/her dependents while their stay in Brazil.
1.8) Document from the applicant stating professional experience or qualification compatible with activities to be carried out in Brazil.
1.9) Document stating the Brazilian institution is operating regularly.
2) FOREIGN RESIDENTS: Copy of the US Alien Resident Card and/or a Valid Visa.
3) MINORS:
- Visa Request Form Receipt – RER must be signed by both parents or legal guardians;
- Original or notarized copy or birth certificate;
- Copy of parents' passports; and
