Lodging your application, processing times and visa collection
Lodging your application
Applications can be lodged in person or through a third party (e.g. trusted representative, visa courier agents etc.) for all visas, except the following, who must lodge their applications in person:
- USA nationals applying for all required visas, on a reciprocity basis;
- Those applying for temporary visa - residence on the ground of family reunion (VITEM XI); and
- Those applying for student and internship visas (VITEM IV).
Courier services / Agents:
Booking an appointment is mandatory by filling in an application through our e-Consular system. Appointments will be possible after the validation of the application from the consulate.
Please note:
The Consulate General in Edinburgh does not have any association, partnership, or agreement with third parties who act as representatives in requesting consular services.
All the services provided by the Consulate General can be requested without contracting an agent or indicating a representative.
Even if a third party is duly authorised to act as a representative for consular services, the Consulate General does not provide any differentiated treatment in these cases, ensuring equality of service for all applicants.
In any case, before dealing with a request on your behalf by a representative or an agent, the Consulate General will ask for a proof that you have given the agent or your representative the authority to act on your behalf, such as a letter of authorisation. Click here to access a template letter.
Individual applicants:
Booking an appointment is mandatory. Click here to fill in your application.
Applicants (individual applicants or the third party) must follow the instructions on our website regarding the visa to be requested and make sure all the required documents are uploaded, otherwise the visa application will not be accepted.
Processing times
Allow up to 7 working days. The passport will be safely kept at the consulate during this period.
Some visas may require prior approval from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (as stated on the “General Guidelines”), according to the nationality of the applicant and/or the type of visa. Hence, it may take additional time to be issued. In this case, the passport will not be held by the consulate whilst waiting for authorisation. When the approval for the visa is received, the applicant must then submit the passport. Be aware that in case the visa is denied (or the applicant resigns the application) the visa fee will not be refunded.
Important:
Visa collection
In person |
The visa can be collected in person, or by an authorized third party, from Monday to Friday, (except bank holidays), from 9am to 11am, at the consulate. No appointment needed. Please bring the visa receipt provided on the day of the interview. |

Passports with processed visas can be returned to a named address in the UK, if a prepaid self-addressed Special Delivery envelope is provided when lodging the application, in which instance we shall not be liable for documents delayed/lost by mail services. |
