Registration
The Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas (CPF) is the Brazilian individual taxpayer registry managed by the Brazilian Revenue Service (Receita Federal do Brasil – RFB) of Brazilians and foreign nationals.
Brazilian or foreign nationals of any age who acquire or intend to acquire any assets or rights subject to public record, including properties, vehicles, vessels, aircrafts, shareholdings, bank accounts or financial investments must register.
A CPF number is issued once only.
How to apply
1. CPF online application form, found here: https://servicos.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Servicos/CPF/cpfEstrangeiro/FcpfIng.asp
A protocol (FCPF) will be issued which must be presented to the consular agent.
2. With the required documents in hand, submit the application for the service via the e-consular platform: https://ec-capetown.itamaraty.gov.br
Required documents
1. | Receita Federal's protocol (FCPF) | If unable to print, write down the service code. |
2. | Original identification document | For Brazilian citizens, the identity card or any other document containing name of parents. For foreigners, valid passport and unabridged birth certificate. |
3. | Document confirming registration to vote | Applicable to Brazilian citizens between 18 and 70 years of age. Note that a CPF registration will not be possible in the absence of a voting registration card or if the registration card has been cancelled. |
4. | Others | Applicants under 16 years of age or disabled: original birth certificate (unabridged birth certificate for foreigners) and original identification document of one parent / legal guardian. |
