About Us
The Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago, directly subordinated to the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, is responsible – in the area of its jurisdiction – for assisting Brazilians, performing notary and other functions envisaged in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Additionally, it supports the Brazilian community in educational and cultural activities and promotes trading relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSULATE
It is allowed for the Consulate to:
- Protect Brazilian citizens' interests, respecting current international treaties and the United States legislation;
- Exercise the functions of a public notary and a civil registry officer, and, as such, authenticate documents, issue certificates, powers of attorney, and declarations to Brazilian citizens;
- Issue travel documents (passports, authorizations to return to Brazil - ARB);
- Act as a military enlisting body abroad;
- Conduct electoral processes in its jurisdiction;
- Issue Brazilian visas for foreign citizens to enter Brazil;
- Assist Brazilian citizens in a situation of helplessness;
- Carry out projects with the Brazilian community.
It is NOT allowed for the Consulate to:
- Interfere in visa applications for Brazilians who come to the United States and in eventual entry denials;
- Pay medical, hospital, and legal expenses, as well as costs with burial, cremation, embalming, and transport of mortal remains to Brazil, or any other expenses, even emergencies;
- Represent Brazilians in court;
- Book hotels, airline tickets, vehicle rentals, and luggage storage;
- Interfere in matters of private law, such as consumer rights and family matters;
- Issue Brazilian Identity Card (RG) (competence of the Secretariat of Public Security of each State), National Registration of Foreigners (CRNM/RNE) (competence of the Federal Police in Brazil), Brazilian National Driver's License (competence of Detran or Denatran). These documents can only be requested in Brazil;
- Issue a background check (it can only be requested in Brazil, personally or through an attorney, with the Federal Police or Public Security Secretariats of the States) and medical certificates of good health;
- Receive applications for Brazilian public companies' selection processes ("Concursos");
- Receive payments of federal, state, or local taxes from Brazil, such as IRPF and other related fees. (They must be paid in the national territory, personally, or by an attorney).
CUSTOMER SERVICE PROCESSES
The Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago is monitoring the situation of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic in the USA and recommends that all Brazilian citizens strictly observe the precautionary measures determined by the local health authorities.
Service requests to the Consulate must be previously scheduled. Only come with an appointment.
Service requests must be submitted through the e-Consular system. The platform must be used for those who wish to schedule in-person services at the Consulate's facilities and for services provided by mail. The e-Consular will perform an electronic pre-analysis of the documentation required for the desired consular service.

REQUESTS FOR PROPOSAL
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, represented by the Brazilian Financial Office (BFO), will carry out an acquisition process, on the basis of the lowest price for lot, and in full compliance with the pertinent legislation, the United States federal law and the State of New York law, and in accordance with the specifications established in this RFP, observing the principles established for Brazilian public contracts, as provided in article 1, § 2nd, of the Law no. 14,133, of April 1st, 2021, and in the Posts Administration Guide. The purpose of this acquisition process is to contract consulting, brokerage, and auditing services for international health, life and accident insurance, and consulting and brokerage services for health insurance in the U.S. market.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, represented by the Brazilian Financial Office (BFO), will conduct a bidding process under the criterion of the lowest overall price, in accordance with applicable legislation, U.S. federal law, and as per the specifications contained in this RFP and its appendices, adhering to the principles applicable to Brazilian public procurement as provided in § 2 of Article 1 of Law No. 14,133, of 2021, and Ordinance No. 463, of 2023, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. The purpose of this acquisition process is to contract medical, vision, and dental insurance for the locally hired staff at the offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil in the United States and their dependents.
