Foreign citizens traveling to Brazil as ministers or members of a religious order (priest, pastor, medium, monk, nun, missionary, or another type of religious worker or professional or/and preach, evangelize, speak as a religious person, care for people's spiritual needs, manage or help manage a religious institution, church, mosque, terreiro, synagogue, religious site, spiritual center, etc.) must have this visa, which in some instances requires specific authorization from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
LENGTH OF STAY IN BRAZIL
This visa is valid for up to 1 year and is extendable for the same amount of time.
Those willing to extend their stay should apply for an extension at the Brazilian Federal Police.

- Complete the online form. There is no printable version available for download.

- Provide a printed photo with your application along with the upload of a digital copy of your photo, signature, and other supporting documents to your application process. (Please note that the upload and a hard copy of your photo are mandatory). *Photos must be printed on photo-quality paper that can be either matte or glossy on a white background.

Valid Passport
|
- Original passport signed by the applicant, with at least two contiguous blank pages left.
- Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes.
- Your passport must be in good condition in order to be accepted as a valid document. It must not be torn, wet, damp, stained, cut, punctured, excessively dirty, etc.
- Adults must sign their passports. Passports of minors do not need to be signed.*Very few countries have passports that do not require signatures. Check your passport and ensure it is signed if there is a field for it.

Proof of Immigration Status in the United States (if not American national)

- Valid green card or visa. WE ONLY ACCEPT ORIGINAL GREEN CARDS, NOT COPIES, EVEN NOTARIZED ONES.
- If you're an American citizen with double citizenship applying for a visa with a non-American passport, you must present proof of your American citizenship, for instance, your American passport or certificate of citizenship, apostilled.

Background check
|
- FBI Background Check issued within 90 days. When mailing the documents to the Consulate, it'll be necessary to send the original colored logo watermarked criminal record, obtained, among other FBI channelers, at Accurate Biometrics: 134 N La Salle St Ste 2060, Chicago, IL 60602 (https://accuratebiometrics.com/illinois/services/fbi-personal-background). The PDF received from the FBI is not accepted.
- If the applicant has lived in the United States less than 1 year, he/she will need to provide a criminal record in all the countries where he/she has lived in the last 12 months, dully apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country, and, if necessary, translated.
- It's necessary to apostille the FBI background check to register the visa with the Federal Police in Brazil.

Proof of residence

To corroborate the information on the FBI criminal record, applicants must show where they have lived in the last 12 months. For this purpose, it's possible to upload statements or bills, which contain the applicant's address and are in his/her name.
As an example: if the FBI was issued in May, the applicant can upload 5 bills: May, August and November from the previous year + February and May of the presetn year.

Original Birth Certificate
|
- If the birth certificate was not originally issued in the US, it must be apostilled by the appropriate government institution in the country where it was signed and translated into English in the US. The translator's signature needs to be notarized and the notary's signature has to be apostilled at the Secretary of State. If it was issued in the US, it's necessary to apostille it to register the visa with the Federal Police in Brazil.

Additional documents from the religious institution in Brazil
|
- Act of Establishment or Bylaws ("Ata de Constituição ou Estatuto Social") of the institution in Brazil.
- Letter, from the religious institution headquartered in Brazil and signed by the president or director, stating the activities the applicant will perform in Brazil, that it will be responsible for the financial maintenance and departure of the applicant from the country, and that the applicant will only carry out activities in an indigenous area with express authorization from the National Indian Foundation - Funai.

- Certificate or diploma of theological or academic religious education or school transcript of theological studies, that qualifies the person for the religious activities to which he/she was appointed in Brazil or, in the case of a member of an institution of consecrated life, proof of that condition.

IMPORTANT
The Consular Authority will determine the type of visa that applies to your case based on the information provided.
Processing time may vary and will be determined by the Consular Authority.
Please check with the Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago for any additional information and documents needed for this type of visa.
All visa requests shall be initiated through the E-Consular platform. Create an account and upload all necessary documents and wait for the approval.
- Once the documents are approved on the E-Consular platform, the original documentation can be sent by mail or delivered at the Consulate, after an appoinment is scheduled on the E-Consular platform. If mailed, a pre-paid return envelope, exclusively from the USPS, must be included. ATTENTION: it's necessary to present ONLY original versions of the documents that were validated, such as passports, whrere visas are stamped, birth or marriage certificates, green cards, notarized documents, Apostilles, and watermarked FBI criminal records. Otherwise, the issuance of the visa will be held until these documents are mailed or another appointment is scheduled to bring them.

If the applicant is late to the appointment at the Consulate, it will also be necessary to schedule another time or mail the documents.

IMPORTANT: the visa is NOT issued on the same day documents are handed in. The applicant has to log in to his/her E-Consular account, choose the "Pick up issued visas" service on the list, and follow the instructions. After the visa is issued, the service will be validated and the applicant will be able to schedule an appointment to pick it up.
REGISTRATION WITH THE FEDERAL POLICE
Holders of this type of visa must register with the Federal Police within 90 days of their first entry into Brazil. Contact the Federal Police directly to learn how to register.
The Consulate anticipates that, among other documents, the applicant will have to present the Visa Application Form (FPV) provided upon the visa issue, as well as their original birth certificate containing the parents' full names.
Please note: the certificate must be apostilled by the competent authority in the issuing country. After being apostilled, the document will have to be translated into Portuguese by a sworn translator ("tradutor juramentado") in Brazil.
