Diplomatic and Official Visas (VIDIP and VISOF)

The diplomatic visa is granted to diplomats, government staff, or employees of International Organizations with diplomatic status on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary.

The official visa is granted for those on an official mission to Brazil, either permanent or temporary, without diplomatic status.

The request must be made by Diplomatic Note from the government or organization the applicant will represent.

The visa will be issued for the mission's duration, as approved by the authorities in Brazil.

For stays over 90 days, holders of this type of visa must register with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs within 30 days of entry into the country and submit a copy of the visa application form provided by this Consulate.

This visa cannot be issued on passports from Kosovo, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, and Taiwan, as Brazil does not maintain diplomatic relations with these countries.

LENGTH OF STAY IN BRAZIL

Up to 2 years. On a reciprocity basis, this visa may be issued for a longer period if specified in the Diplomatic Note.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicant's valid passport	Original passport signed by the applicant, with at least two contiguous blank pages left. Please note that pages reserved for amendments cannot be used for visa purposes. Your passport must be in good condition to be accepted as a valid document. It must not be torn, wet, damp, stained, cut, punctured, excessively dirty, etc. Adults must sign their passports. Passports of minors do not need to be signed. Please note that very few countries have passports that do not require signatures. Check your passport and ensure it is signed if there is a field for it.
One 2x2 inches (Click here for photo specifications)	Provide a printed photo with your application along with the upload of a digital copy of your photo, signature, and other supporting documents to your application process. (Please note that the upload and a hard copy of your photo are mandatory). Photos must be printed on photo-quality paper that can be either matte or glossy photo paper on a white background.
Visa application form	Complete the online form. There is no printable version available for download. Enter complete information – please note that some fields are mandatory. Parents' names must be entered in full (name and surname), exactly as displayed on the applicant's birth certificate. Attach PDF or JPG copies of all documents listed below on a message to visa.chicago@itamaraty.gov.br. Click on the "Complete Application" button to generate the Visa Request Form Receipt (RER). Print and sign the RER; affix your photo on the indicated field. For minor children (under 18 years old), the printed RER must be signed by both parents.
Diplomatic Note	Must state the details of the applicant's assignment in Brazil. If the applicant is willing to travel accompanied by their spouse/partner/children, click here to check their eligibility. If eligible, the Diplomatic Note must name the accompanying family members. For members of the family other than the spouse, partner, or children under the age of 21, a courtesy visa (VICOR) may be granted.

VISA FEES

Diplomatic and official visas are free of charge.

Once the documents are approved, the original documentation can be sent by mail. All applications must include a pre-paid return envelope exclusively from the USPS.

DO NOT send your service request by mail without receiving the e-mail with the validation of your request first. Requests sent without Consulate's validation will be returned.
