VIVIS - Visitor Visa

ELIGIBILITY

Visitor Visa (VIVIS) may be granted to visitors for a short stay (up to 90 days), for the following purposes:

1. Tourism: sightseeing, informative trips, cultural trips, educational trips, leisure, family visit, conferences, seminars, congresses, and meetings;
2. Business: business meetings and events, fairs, contract signatures, audits, consulting;
3. Artistic or sports activity;
4. Health treatment;
5. Study, research, teaching, academic extension, and supervised academic training;
6. Volunteer work;
7. Adoption of Brazilian minor;
8. Aircraft or ship crew members;
9. Journalistic coverage and filming.

RULES

• NO EMPLOYMENT IN BRAZIL: The beneficiary of a visitor visa is prohibited from engaging in paid employment in Brazil. Not valid for paid work in Brazil.
• SOME TYPES OF PAYMENTS ARE ALLOWED: The beneficiary of a visitor visa may receive certain forms of payment from the government, from a Brazilian employer, or from a private entity, such as reimbursement for travel expenses (the Consulate will verify the applicant’s paperwork in order to establish if the payment to be received by the applicant is compatible with the visitor visa). If the applicant is going to receive any sort of payment from Brazilian sources, he/she must provide comprehensive paperwork related to the intended trip. The visitor visa can also be used for travelers that intend to compete for prizes, including money, sports competitions, or artistic or cultural competitions. The following types of payment are allowed: daily allowances, artistic paychecks, compensation, or other travel expenses.
• STOPOVERS AND TRANSIT: No visa is required for stopovers or connections in Brazilian airports, provided that the visitor does not leave the international transit area. If the traveler is going to leave the international transit area, a visit visa is required.
• THE SAME VISITOR VISA CAN BE USED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES: A visitor visa can be used for different purposes, on the same trip, or on different occasions, provided the purposes are covered by the visitor visa rules listed above. For example: you can apply for a visitor visa for a tourist visit and, in the future, use the same visa for a business trip; or you can do business and tourism on the same trip.
• VISITOR VISAS ARE USUALLY GOOD FOR MULTIPLE ENTRIES: The Brazilian Government decides at its own discretion the type of Visa and duration granted. The maximum stay in Brazil will be decided by the Federal Police of Brazil.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1. PASSPORT: Signed, valid up to the end of your trip, and with at least one visa blank page available (amendment pages are not accepted).
2. BRAZILIAN VISA APPLICATION FORM: One per applicant, completely filled out online and signed by the passport holder or his/her parents/guardians. You will need to print only the receipt page with the bar code.
3. PHOTO: One recent 2” x 2” passport-photo size, front view, white background.
4. PROOF OF RESIDENCY in the jurisdiction of the Consulate (Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont).
5. EVIDENCE OF INCOME: Proof of financial capability during the stay in Brazil (i.e., copy of bank/credit card statements or paychecks/paystubs).
6. ITINERARY: Round-trip ticket, booked itinerary (reservation), or invitation letter from the host.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (IF APPLICABLE)

• ELIGIBILITY 2 - BUSINESS PURPOSE: Invitation letter.
• ELIGIBILITY 7 - ADOPTION OF BRAZILIAN MINOR: Copy of the court order that authorized the international adoption or copy of the court order that enabled the foreigners to adopt a Brazilian minor.
• ELIGIBILITY 9 - FILMING: Authorization letter issued by ANCINE.
• FOREIGN RESIDENTS/NON-US CITIZENS: Evidence of legal stay in the U.S.
• MINORS:
• Visa Request Form Receipt – RER must be signed by both parents or legal guardians;
• Original or notarized copy or birth certificate;
• Copy of parents' passports; and
• Notarized authorization form signed by both parents / legal guardians. Click here to download the form.
