Temporary Visas

TEMPORARY VISAS

Temporary visas may be granted to an applicant who intends to travel to Brazil to establish temporary residence of more than 90 days in the country, according to the following purposes:

-Study;

-Work;

-Religious activity;

-Volunteering;

-Family reunification;

-Artistic or sportive activities.

IMPORTANT RULES ABOUT TEMPORARY VISAS

MANDATORY DOCUMENT: along with the all the specific paperwork required for each type of temporaty visa, all temporary visa applicants must present his/her original birth certificate.

-STUDY: temporary study visa may be granted to an immigrant who intends to come to Brazil to attend a regular course or to carry out an internship or exchange of study or research.

-WORK: temporary work visas may be granted to immigrants who intend to work in Brazil, provided they show documented proof a job offer from a Brazilian source. This requirement is not mandatory if the immigrant has a higher education degree.

-WORK – CHANGE OF EMPLOYER: The immigrant who has been granted a temporary work visa is allowed to change his/her place/employer of work in Brazil.

-SHIP CREW: ship crew members who enters Brazil on a long-distance trip or on Brazilian cruises by the Brazilian coast shall not be required to present the temporary work visa, provided that international crew member document is presented. 

-INVESTORS: Investors may be granted a temporary visa, provided the investment/project has the potential to create jobs or income in Brazil. Send a message to visa.novayork@itamaraty.gov.br for more information.

-FAMILY REUNIFICATION: a visa under this purpose may be granted in the following cases:

a) spouse or partner of a Brazilian or an immigrant who is beneficiary of a residence permit;

b) child of an immigrant who is beneficiary of a residence permit,

c) a parent of a Brazilian child or a child who is an immigrant with a residence permit;

d) siblings and ascending, descending relatives to the second degree of a Brazilian or an immigrant beneficiary of residence permit; or

e) a person who has a Brazilian under his/her guardianship.
