Honorary Consuls

Honorary consular functions are performed by Brazilian or foreign citizens willing to act, in the local media, in favor of the interests of the Brazilian State and its nationals. The Honorary Consul is not a servant of the diplomatic career, nor a paid employee of the Brazilian State, voluntarily exercising his function. Therefore, all documents requested with the help of honorary consuls must be subsequently processed at the Consulate General of Brazil in Atlanta.

In the jurisdiction of the Consulate - Alabama (AL), South Carolina (SC), Georgia (GA), Mississippi (MS) and Tennessee (TN) -, honorary consuls are authorized to authenticate copies of original documents for the processing of services such as issuance of Passports and Consular License Plates (CMC), without sending by mail original documents.

Honorary Consuls are dedicated exclusively to the care of Brazilian citizens.

Visas are not processed at Honorary Consulates.

Examples of honorary consuls' functions are to act in cases of assistance to families of Brazilians hospitalized with serious or deceased diseases; assist in the organization of events of the Consulate and Itinerant Consulates; receive suggestions about community demands, among other activities.

Honorary Consuls may provide general information on the consular services provided by the Consular Office to which they are subordinated but may not perform such services. Specific services provided by honorary consuls on previously established days and occasions are disclosed in advance on our website and social media.

CONSULAR REGISTRATION CARD AND PASSPORT AND PASSPORT

In the case of passport requests and Consular Registration Licenses by mail, the applicant, instead of sending originals by post, may schedule service with the Honorary Consul of his jurisdiction to make authentic copies of the original documents required for Passports and Consular Registration Licenses and send them to the Consulate in Atlanta.
