Visa - undergraduate studies (VITEM IV)

UNDERGRADUATED STUDIES VISA

a) General rules

Foreign Undergraduate, Master or Doctoral students, and interns, travelling to Brazil to undertake academic work in a Brazilian institution, recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education:

A Graduation long-term studies or

B Exchange program or

C Internship (provided it is part of the university studies) or

D Language or Technical courses

• To qualify for a student visa, the applicant has to attend a minimum of 15 hours of classes per week. This information has to be clearly confirmed in the required letter from the Brazilian education institution, as well as that the course, regardless of its duration, is fully paid (or a scholarship has been granted). 
• For applicants younger than 18 years old when travelling alone a proof of guardianship is required : letter of consent signed by father and mother or guardian. This document must bear the apostille.
• Maximum validity of the VITEM-IV visa is one year. Extensions can be applied for at the Department of Federal Police, in Brazil, at least 30 days before the visa expires. Applications for extensions must be accompanied by a school report issued by the Brazilian educational institution in which the applicant has been enrolled in addition to proof of enrolment for the following school term.
• VITEM-IV holders who shall stay in Brazil for more than 90 days MUST register in person at the Department of Federal Police in Brazil within the first 30 days after their arrival. A copy of the visa application form must be submitted to the Police authorities.

b) Required documents

1– Passports presented must be original, valid for at least 6 (six) months prior to expiration date. The passport must have at least 2 (two) blank visa pages.

2 - One recent 3,5 cm x 4,5 cm (pasfoto) photograph, front view, light background.

3 – One visa application form per person (click here to fill in the form). Please disregard the error message about the website’s security certificate. Click at “Continue to this website (not recommended)”.

Fill in the form.
. Click "SEND" to receive your processing number and receipt.
. Print the receipt.
. Attach your photograph
. Sign the receipt.
. Bring the duly completed and signed receipt, original documents and passport. The payment will be done during the process at the Consulate by “PIN”(debit card).

4 - Proof of availability of sufficient fund for self-maintenance for the duration of stay in Brazil or scholarship (at least €700,00 per month of stay).

5 - Certificate of Good Behavior (VOG), in the international model, issued by the Ministry of Justice certifying absence of criminal record – only valid within 90 days after issuance, apostilled.

• VOG - Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag: In order to issue the VOG, the Dutch authorities request a declaration provided by this Consulate. To request the declaration, send a photo of your passport to: visa.amsterdam@itamaraty.gov.br.

6 - Birth Certificate, in the international model, bearing the apostille if document issued outside the Netherlands. 

c) Specific requirements per category:

A - Undergraduate, Master or Doctorate students:

- High School, Graduation or Post-Graduation Diploma (or equivalent) bearing the apostille:

- Proof of enrolment issued by an educational institution in Brazil (active enrolment). Duration of course must be indicated, as well as, the name of the course and workload (per week).*This letter MUST be original and the representative's signature legalized by a notary public in Brazil;

- Proof of approval in the selective process of the Educational Institution (“Vestibular” or similar). Proficiency in Portuguese must also be provided. *Only required for Undergraduate students.

B- Exchange Students (Undergraduate, Master or Doctorate) – Sandwich Program:

- Proof of enrolment in a Dutch institution (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate). This document must bear the apostille.

- Proof of enrolment issued by an educational institution in Brazil (active enrolment). Duration of course must be indicated, as well as, the name of the course and workload (per week).

C- Internship (Provided that the internship is part of universities studies) :

- Proof of enrolment in a Dutch institution (Bachelor, Master or Doctorate). This document must bear the apostille. In order to get the apostille, on academic documents, first have the signature legalized at DUO - Groningen or Rotterdam. The document is then ready to receive the apostille, at any courthouse (Rechtbank).

-Learning Agreement (Internship Contract)* signed by the organization where the Internship will be performed, the student and the educational institution where the student is enrolled. The signature of the Brazilian party must be legalized by a public notary in Brazil.

* If the internship is supposed to last less than 120 days the foreign educational institution needs to sign the Learning Agreement instead of the Brazilian University.

D- Language or Technical courses:

- Proof of enrolment issued by an educational institution in Brazil (active enrolment). Duration of course must be indicated as well as the name of the course and hourly load (per week). *This letter MUST be original, and the representative's signature legalized by a notary public in Brazil.

- The tax registration number (CNPJ) has to be mentioned.

The Consulate might ask for further documents and explanations beyond the ones indicated on the website which are mandatory for visa concession.

CONSULAR FEES

All fees are payable by debit card (PIN). Credit cards and “cheques” are not accepted.
