Visa - application process
HOW TO APPLY
a) Verify whether you are exempt or not of a visa.
1 - If a visa is NOT required, on arrival in Brazil you must have a passport valid for at least 6 (six) months. Other conditions are listed below*.
2 - Select the type of visa according to the purpose of your trip.
b) Read all the information carefully.
c) Collect all necessary documentation (Do you need a Certificate of Conduct? Check number 10 below).
d) Fill in the visa - application form.
e) Upload the required documents to the form.
f) Complete the application by printing and signing the Visa Request Form Receipt – RER.
- Your signature must match the one on your passport.
- Attach the photo as specified.
g) Book an appointment online.
- Bring all the requested original documents and pay the visa fee after the interview at the Consulate. The visa application can be presented personally or through a visa agency.
* Additionally, you may be required by the Federal Police (Polícia Federal) to meet the following conditions:
- Prove you have sufficient funds for your term of stay.
- Demonstrate your travel objective (for instance, by means of a hotel reservation and a roundtrip ticket, in case of a tourism trip).
The granting of a visa does not guarantee its holder the right to enter Brazil. The entry and period of stay of a foreigner in the Brazilian territory is a decision to be taken by the Brazilian immigration authorities at each entry port.
2 - This Consulate only accepts Visa applications under the condition that the photo, the signature and the necessary documents are PREVIOUSLY uploaded and sent via the Visa Application website.
3 – The applicant must present the original documents upon the Visa application at the Consulate and it may be returned during the collection of the Visa.
4 - Visas are classified according to the nature of the trip. Please check the visa type that best fits your case.
5 - Processing time - including those previously authorized by the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) of Brazil - can be:
- up to 5 visas: at least five (5) working days;
- 6 to 9 visas: at least 7 (seven) working days
- 10 or more: proportional to the number of visas – only in this case the appointment is requested by contacting visa.amsterdam@itamaraty.gov.br.
6 - The Consulate does not provide express services. The Visa Section will not adapt the visa-processing time to the needs or the flight schedule of the applicant.
7 - Visa applications submitted by passport holders from North Korea, Nigeria, Central African Republic and Senegal are approved by the competent authorities at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Please note that this process can take several months.
8 – The Consulate may request additional documents or information as needed - beyond the ones indicated on the website. On these situations, the presentation of such documents is mandatory for obtaining the visa.
9 - If you have a valid Brazilian visa in an expired passport and have had another passport issued by the same country, without any name changes, you may enter Brazil carrying and presenting both passports.
10 - To apply for a Certificate of Good Behavior in the Netherlands ("Verklaring omtrent het gedrag" – VOG) you are required by your City Hall to fill in an application form. The institution that requires the VOG is also expected to fill in some fields.
This Consulate General, however, cannot complete any form. In accordance with the Dutch Ministry of Justice, we can provide a declaration stating the reason why the Certificate of Good Behavior is demanded (e.g. visa application, getting married in Brazil).
- VOG - Verklaring omtrent het gedrag: In order to issue the VOG, the Dutch authorities request a declaration provided by this Consulate. To request the declaration, send a photo of your passport to: visa.amsterdam@itamaraty.gov.br
- Outside the Netherlands: this document must be EITHER apostilled by the competent authorities of the issuing country (if the country is a signatory of The Hague Apostille Convention) OR legalized by the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate located in the country that issued them (if the country is NOT a signatory of Apostille Convention).
- Certificate of good behavior (international model) issued by the Ministry of Justice certifying absence of criminal record – only valid within 90 days after issuance, apostilled.
11 - There are currently no mandatory vaccinations required to visit Brazil. However, it is advisable to be vaccinated against yellow fever prior to entering Brazil depending on the area of the country you plan to visit.
- As applicable, yellow fever vaccination certificate is required only if the applicant has traveled within the last 90 days to any of the following countries: Angola, Benin, Bissau Guinea, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Cameroun, Central African Republic, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guiana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenia, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Surinam, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda or Venezuela.
- Yellow fever vaccination is advisable if applicant's destination in Brazil includes any of the following States: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Federal District, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and/or Tocantins.

12 - On a reciprocity basis, first entry into Brazil must occur no later than 90 days after the visa has been issued for passport holders of the following countries:

CONSULAR FEES
All fees are payable by debit card (PIN). Cash is accepted for visa-applications submitted by mail. Credit cards and cheques are not accepted.
