CPF - Individual Taxpayer Registry in Brazil
First time registration or amendment
Brazilian nationals and foreigners (living in Brazil or residing abroad) whose assets in Brazil are subject to public registration (such as properties, vehicles, boats, airplanes, partnership, bank accounts or investment in the financial market) must apply for "Cadastro de Pessoa Física" - CPF (Taxpayer Registry).
CPF is a unique and definitive number and it will be issued only once. It is not possible for the same person to have 2 CPF numbers.
Required documents:
1) Brazilian nationals:
- Original, and photocopy of Brazilian document bearing the applicant’s name and photo, and parents’ full names (Ex. passport + full birth certificate or Brazilian ID card);
- Brazilian electoral card (título eleitoral);
- "Ficha Cadastral de Pessoa Física" fully filled online, printed and signed (form for individuals residing abroad).
2) Foreigners (living in Brazil or residing abroad):
- Original, and a photocopy of a valid passport;
- Document (original and photocopy) that unquestionably attests the identity and nationality of the individual, as well as his/her place and date of birth, and parent's full names.
3) First time registration of Brazilian minors(less than 16 years of age) represented by their parents or judicial court’s appointed guardian:
- "Ficha Cadastral de Pessoa Física" fully filled online, printed and signed (form for individuals residing abroad).
- Original, and photocopy of both the Brazilian minor applicant and legal guardian IDs, as well as documented proof of legal guardianship or parenthood.
If the applicant is a minor, and the CPF is requested by his or her parents, a full birth certificate is required, in order to attest parenthood.
