Australian Generalized System of Tariff Preferences
The Australian Generalized System of Tariff Preferences (ASTP) was officially notified to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on January 1, 1974. It currently benefits 177 countries and territories. The category in which Brazil is included has preferential rates of zero, 2.5%, 4% or 5%. From a total of 830 products eligible for Brazil, 129 are agricultural and 701 are industrial.
Further details on how the ASTP operates can be found in the Handbook prepared by UNCTAD or in the WTO database on Preferential Trade Arrangements. The official reference source is the Customs Tariff Classification of the Australian Government.
Exporters seeking to make use of the ASTP must comply with the applicable origin requirements, which are usually attested by submitting the Certificate of Origin "Form A", issued by Banco do Brasil.
