Republic of Senegal
Senegal has always played a prominent role in the context of Brazil's relationship with African countries. Diplomatic relations were established in 1960, shortly after the Senegalese independence, and the Brazilian embassy in Dakar was opened in 1961 (in the 19th century, Brazil had an honorary consul in Dakar). The Embassy of Senegal in Brasília, opened in 1963, is the country's only embassy in Latin America.
Bilateral relations have strengthened in recent decades, as evidenced by meetings between presidents and foreign ministers of the two countries. Technical cooperation has been one of the central axes of the partnership and, since 2005, initiatives have been regularly implemented in areas such as agriculture and agroecology (in particular cotton farming), aquaculture and fishing, health and school feeding.
