Republic of Poland

Brazil was the first Latin American country and one of the first in the world to recognize the restoration of Poland's independence in 1918. During World War II, Brazilian and Polish soldiers joined the Allied troops that fought against Nazifascism in Europe. The two countries  have maintained strong ties until today. In 2020, the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Poland will be celebrated.

Currently, bilateral cooperation covers areas such as trade, defense, science and technology, culture and education. Since Poland's accession to the European Union (2004), issues related to Brazil's relationship with the bloc have also become part of the agenda for discussion between the two countries.

Mutual visits between authorities have been frequent in recent decades. Specially noteworthy are the Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski's mission to Brazil in 2012; the visit of Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo to Poland to participate in the 19th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention of the United Nations on Climate Change (COP-19) and to meet with the Polish Chancellor in 2013; the high-level bilateral visit in 2015, when then Vice-President Michel Temer visited the Polish capital; and the Meeting of Political-Economic Consultations between Brazil and Poland in Brasilia, in 2018.

On January 2, 2019, Poland's Foreign Minister, Jacek Czaputowics, visited Brazil on the occasion of the presidential inauguration and was hosted by Foreign Minister Ernesto Araújo. The Brazilian Foreign Minister, in turn, visited Poland on February 14 to participate in the “Warsaw Conference to Promote a Future of Peace and Security in the Middle East”. In March 2019, the Chief Minister of the Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic of Poland, Krzysztof Szczerski, visited Brazil and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Brazilian Foreign Minister made an official visit to Poland in May 2019.

Economic and trade relations have intensified. Brazil is Poland's main trading partner in South America and the bilateral trade flow exceeded US $ 1.5 billion in 2018, with US $ 856.96 million of Brazilian exports and US $ 653 million of imports. In 2018, the highlights of the Brazilian export basket to Poland were copper ores (25% of the exported value), soy oil (24%) and airplanes (10%).
