Republic of Malawi
Brazil and Malawi have maintained diplomatic relations since 1964. The bilateral relationship gained momentum following President Bingu Wa Mutharika's visit to Brazil in 2009.
The resident Embassy of Malawi in Brasília was opened in 2010, and the Embassy of Brazil in Lilongwe, in 2013. The Embassy of Brazil was closed in 2022, thus the Embassy in Lusaka (Zambia) became cumulatively responsible for overseeing Brazil-Malawi relations.
Bilateral cooperation remains intense and involves dialogue and exchange on public policies on HIV/AIDS and agriculture, especially in cotton cultivation, such as projects to strengthen the cotton sector in the Lower Shire and Zambezi basins and the initiative for the sustainable genetic improvement of cotton.
