Diplomatic relations between Brazil and Madagascar were established in 1996. Since 1997, the Brazilian Embassy in Maputo (Mozambique) has cumulatively represented the Brazilian State to the Malagasy government. In turn, the Embassy of Madagascar in Washington represents its country to the Brazilian government.
In 2022, trade flow amounted to $52.4 million, with a Brazilian surplus of $44.8 million, consisting largely of sugar and molasses exports.

1997 – Creation of the non-resident Embassy of Brazil to the Malagasy government, with headquarters in Maputo (decree of October 8)
