Republic of Kenya
Brazil established diplomatic relations with Kenya shortly after its independence in 1963, and opened a resident Embassy in Nairobi in 1967. Kenya opened an Embassy in Brasilia in 2006.
In 2010, the then President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited Nairobi, and agreements were signed in the areas of trade and investment, education, and energy. That same year, the visit to Brazil of the then Kenyan Foreign Minister, Moses Wetang'ula, fostered partnerships in the areas of air services and cultural cooperation.
In August 2016, Kenya's Vice President William Ruto visited Brazil on the occasion of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
In April 2018, a Brazil-Kenya Political Consultations Meeting was held on the occasion of the visit of the Under-Secretary-General for Africa and the Middle East, Ambassador Fernando José Marroni de Abreu, to Nairobi. In June of the same year, Kenya's Secretary for Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Ambassador Tom Amolo, visited Brasilia to follow up on the issues addressed during the political consultations.
In July 2019, the then Attorney General, Raquel Dodge, visited Kenya to discuss cooperation on environmental matters. In return, the director of the Kenyan Public Prosecutor's Office, Noordin Haji, visited Brazil in September. The countries' prosecutors’ offices began negotiations to establish inter-institutional cooperation in the area of combating corruption.
Brazil cooperates with Kenya in several sectors. Cooperation initiatives have already been carried out in the electoral , sports, environmental and health areas. Currently, a trilateral program is underway in the area of school meals, as well as bilateral initiatives in agriculture (manioc and cotton sector), college education, training of diplomats, and training of military personnel.
